Lightning Photography

Mother Nature has given us quite a light show in recent nights! Have you ever tried to take a photo of lightning or want to know more on how to capture it on camera? Meteorologist Josh Fitzpatrick and a local photographer has some insight.

With all the active weather the past several weeks, we've received many great e-Reporter photos from viewers like you.  Some of the most spectacular shots have been of lightning.  Jessica from Cabell County asks: "I’ve been trying to take pictures of lightning but fail every time.  Could you give me some tips on how to capture lightning?"  Jessica, I know how you feel, I've tried as well with not much luck.

One of our reporters has been successful in taking some spectacular lightning photos.  Pictured below you’ll see one taken by Bradley Wells of Huntington.  Over the last few weeks, he's managed to get several great snapshots of lightning.  Not just any lightning but some of the hottest lightning you'll see.  This purple or violet lightning is some of the hottest.

Getting back to the question of how to photograph lightning?  For the all the answers, please click on Bradley’s Hometown Photography web site.  He gives you all the details on what you need and how to take great photos.  Here’s the direct link:
