Ask Josh: 100% Chance of a White Christmas

For the first time since 2002 and 2003, the entire region will see snow on the groung Christmas Day! Meteorologist Josh Fitzpatrick has the details.

I've had many e-mails and folks asking me "are we going to have a white Christmas this year?"  I must admit, our chances here in the Ohio, Big Sandy and Kanawha Valley's this December would favor a higher probability since it's been so cold and snowy so far.

Pictured above is a map of the area's most favored for snow on December 25th.

On average our region (outside the mountains) gets about two Christmas Days with snow a decade.  So usually our chances aren't great.

To get snow on any particular day is tough and odds are low.

With a new light to moderate snowfall on the way late Christmas Eve. night into Christmas Day, our chances of seeing a White Christmas is now 100% for 2010!  That's the first time since 2002 in Charleston and 2003 in Huntington.  Officially to have it be a white one, there must be at least one inch of snow on the ground come Christmas morning.

Enjoy and safe travels!  I wish all of you a very merry Christmas!
