Ask Josh Fitzpatrick: What's that in the sky?

An interesting weather phenomenon has been happening lately with a lunar and solar ring or halo. Meteorologist Josh Fitzpatrick shows you what it is, how it forms and what it means!

Check out the photos below!  Have you seen a lunar (moon) or solar (sun) ring or halo before?  Many of you have over the last several weeks.

These pictures were all taken locally in the last few weeks.

The lunar and solar halo is caused by the moon or sunlight being refracted or bent by the high, thin, ice crystal Cirrus clouds and this causes the circle you see.  It's a sign of a change in the weather.  Usually about 18 to 24 hours after seeing this, expect rain, ice and or snow!
