Jul 21, 2011- He Knows What's Wrong and Wants to Fix It

In this week's "At the Capitol" segment a man who's no stranger to politics talks about his first run for elected office.

In this week's "At the Capitol" segment, I sit down with Allen Loughry, who's running as an independent for West Virginia's Supreme Court. If his name sounds familiar, it's not because you've seen him running for office before. (Though he has been working in government for quite a long time). He's probably better known, though, for his book Don't Buy Another Vote, I Won't Pay for a Landslide.

In it, he douments corruption throughout West Virginia's history, airing the firty laundry of both Democrats and Republicans.

We talked about several issues, including the challenges he finds with choosing our judges through partisan elections. We also talked about the unique challenge voters have with Supreme Court races in general. Candidates are restricted from talking about cases that could come before the court. Given that they run for 12-year terms, that puts a lot of subject matter off limits. So, how can we make a good decision about who to pick? Click on the video to see what he has to say.

Also, West Virginia Republicans are meeting this weekend to debate holding a convention early in 2012 to pick their nominee for president. In the segement, you'll hear some of the pros and cons.

There's also a bit about the buzz Ohio Sen. Rob Portman (R) is getting as a potential VP candidate in 2012. It's early, of course. But, who doesn't love to speculate?
