Oct 29, 2011- On the Passing of Former Senate President Lloyd Jackson Sr.

The governor's office confirmed Saturday Jackson passed away at age 93.

Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin's office announced Saturday former Senate President Lloyd Jackson Sr. (D) passed away this morning. He was 93.

Jackson served as Senate President from 1969-1971. He represented the 7th senatorial district, including his home of Lincoln County. He was originally elected in 1946, serving six terms in the Senate.

In a statement, Tomblin said:

"I was saddened to learn of the passing of Lloyd G. Jackson, Sr.  He was a distinguished member of the West Virginia Legislature, having served the 7th Senatorial District with great distinction. As President, Lloyd led the Senate with great passion and was highly regarded by his fellow Senators. Joanne and I send our heartfelt condolences and deepest sympathies to the Jackson family. Lloyd will truly be missed, and will long be remembered for his dedicated service to our great state."

Acting Senate President Jeff Kessler added in a statement:

"On behalf of the West Virginia Senate, I send my sincerest condolences to the family of Lloyd G. Jackson, Sr.  Senator Jackson was the Democratic President of the West Virginia Senate from Lincoln County and served from 1969 to 1971.  We thank him for his service to West Virginia and the citizens of the Seventh Senatorial District.  Our prayers go out to the entire Jackson family.  We will keep them in our thoughts as they continue through this challenging time."
