More chances of rain today, then another lull
Back to Monday everyone!
(and back to work for me)...Although, technically I never stopped the blogging ;-)
Today's weather features the last impulse of energy working its way through the region, with its attendant showers. Here it is on the NAM:

As said before in the blog, the "vorticity" in the atmosphere represents twisting energy relative to the spin of the Earth. Often-times these are great places to look to spot shower development at the surface. That itty-bitty oval of vorticity in the tri-state area is responsible for keeping the last bit of rain alive in the afternoon. Because of the heat in between events, there will always be enough juice in the are to get some rumbles and downpours going. Better get in what you can today, because showers will once again be in short supply going forward into the week.
High pressure dominates the area in typical mid-summer fashion. Here's what the surface map looks like mid-week:

A steady fetch of southwesterly winds at all levels will keep shoving the organized front-based systems well to our north and up/over us, while keeping the pressure on to get 90-degree air in here each of several days in a row. One bit of good news though, is that eventually this wind-flow alignment with the Gulf of Mexico will allow a creep of humidity to seep northward into town to go along with the heat. This will set off those 'nature's air conditioner' thunderstorms in the heat of the day. Initially these will only be for the favored mountain areas that have the added advantage of upslope winds, but we'll get some 'trickle down' effects later in the afternoon. It's a long ride from the mountains to the River Cities area (where the rain is needed the most), so we'll just have to see if it can make it.
