A good Monday morning to one and all.
We'll wake up to the last pitter-patter of raindrops this morning, as our system finishes its way through the area. It's a quick mover, so we can get sunshine in here to finish off the day.
|NAM - Monday AM||NAM - Clouds - Monday PM|
Temperatures will drop back to more seasonable levels following this system, so Sunday and today may be our only ventures in the 50s for a while. High pressure brings tranquil weather for Tuesday, and then things get interesting again for Wednesday.
|GFS - Wednesday Afternoon||GFS - Early Thursday|
It's not a big system at present-- though you don't need a lot of moisture to get a bunch of snow. A case in point would be Saturday's blizzard in Portland, ME -- they got 30" of snow from 1" of liquid precipitation(!) In this case, we'll be watching a low pressure system slide just under us, which would put us in the snow category (but it's close). Here's what the GFS is currently modeling for snowfall from this event:

I don't like using the GFS maps until it gets to within NAM range as well (because I like the comparison), but I'll just say anyway that another ribbon of snow showers is looking better and better for the southern mountains.
Beyond this, how about some more of that arctic chill..? (I bet a lot of you are gradually weaning yourselves off winter, so a trip back down into really cold air won't be appreciated as well).

There may even be a few flurries out then as well. :-)
As it is Monday, I like to take a peek at what the models want to push for the following week ahead as well. Here's what the latest depiction is:
|6-10 Day Outlook - Temperature||6-10 Day Outlook - Precipitation|
Perhaps this can be another opportunity for a southern-track storm system we can hitch on to :-) After all, a ton of the top blizzards the East has seen have "President's Day" in the title...
