Up and down, down and up we go
Temperatures may be cold in the morning for now...but the heat returns closer to the weekend. Wild swings indeed.

Waking up to chilly weather that will threaten all the delicate new flowers, fruit trees, and the like (by now this is a routine advisory).

These are the maps you should watch for that (also below but bigger here). Just about everyone has a freeze warning for this morning, and those that do not are not in their growing season yet-- so technically it might as well be all of us.
The novel snow-talk is still confined to just the eastern mountains, and most of us will miss appreciable rain or snow entirely. As far as the clouds though, we may not be as lucky. At this point we've had such a great streak of weather the law of averages alone would mean clouds, but the models are meaning clouds as well:

Notice the higher altitude humidity rotating through more quickly (the winds are faster up there and the steering currents are better). At least "mostly cloudy" should be reached at times, even though the thickest relative humidity at all levels is more toward the mountains. Update - The river-cities area is waking up to mostly sunny skies today, and that even extends toward the Charleston area. The thicker clouds remain more tightly confined to the mountains and northern sections of Ohio and WV.
Since we've talked a lot already about this particular weather pattern...let's not look ahead to the next weather-maker on the way. Some of you might like it a little more ;-)

It's a return to the summer-like pattern we had in late March: A nice broad area of high pressure slipping off the Carolina coast, and a sweeping warm front bouyed by the warm air riding in from the deep south. How warm might it get?

Perhaps it's a back-to-the 80s weekend for us. Sounds to me like I'll have to post a little music for that one ;-)
Keep in mind that we may also have to turn up the storm tracking as well when we get close, for the middle part of the country, as these swings are often marked with the storms.
Now that I think of it, I do have something to post that's captures in my mind the weather of the past few days:
Anybody remember the Smothers Brothers when Tom would be "Mr. Yo" or the "yo-yo man"? His yo-yoing is starting at 1:06 ...
The temperatures have definitely been yo-yo-ing as of late ;-)
