It seems like only yesterday that I was sitting in the newsroom crying my eyes out that my baby had started kindergarten!  Now, one year later, I’ve sent her off to first grade!  Let me tell ya!  What a difference a year makes!  There were no tears and not even any real sadness... at first.  It seemed as though it was just the start of another school year full of busy work to get all of the supplies loaded up and my child to the right room.

Now, before I say I completely skated through this event, I must admit there was some slight reluctance on my part.  I walked Gabbie to class and watched her unload her supplies.  We were among the first families to arrive in the classroom.  I helped her get settled at her desk and leafed through her textbooks with her.  I took a few photos and then just stood there watching…  I watched the other children and their parents get set up, I watched Gabbie’s frightful independence as she moved around visiting with her friends.  I watched her comfort and ease with her new teacher and surroundings and I found it hard to make myself leave.  Finally, after about 15 minutes, after many of the parents had already left and after the bell rang signaling the start of school, I finally pulled away.

I walked IN a little indifferent to the day and its significance, but I left very reflective and a little melancholy wondering, “Where has the time gone???”

Peace, Love and Joy!

Carrie

Carrie I appreciate your response, but the damage has been done to Emily Perdue reputation just because it was JOhn Perdue's daughter. It,s pretty sad that you jumped the gun on this story. The fed investigation proved that there was no wrongdoing on the part of the Perdues. I'm waiting to see if your big enough to admit you blew this one and ruined a young ladys repution. Ihope this would never happen to your daughter, because it's essential that you stay involved in your child,s education, even thru college. God Bless.

I am sure Gabby will continue on the path of as caring compassionate individual as she undoubtedly has two loving parents who will nurture and guide her. She as well as her teachers are blessed to have involved parents; as a retired educator I can assure you that all children would succeed in this life if all parents had your insight and skills.

To Happy: We have requested an interview with MU officials. They directed us to Provost Gayle Ormiston. After that, they've maintained that this is a closed case, everything has been investigated and they found no wrongdoing. We have reported that statement several times. The university has not granted any more interviews. We'd love to sit down and talk with Dr. Kopp about this story, but he has not been available to discuss the matter.

Ithink it great that you are involved in your child's education. All the research shows the child will be more successful when parents are involved. good luck and be involved in everything at the school. BYthe way I saw in the marshall partheon that President Kopp said that in the Perdue grade case everythihg was investagated and that she completed all the work and that she earned the grades she recieved. He indicated it was a clerical error that caused the problem. Don't you tink to be balanced you need to interview Koppto exonerate the perdue girl from the any contervery. Let's be fair about this, give the viewer the whole story. thanks.

I have two boys. One is in 7th grade and this year, I had to take my baby to kindergarten. With my oldest son, he just smiled and waved. I knew he was fine and I had no problem. But this time it was totally different. Maybe because I know how the time flies by. It seems like just yesterday I dropped my oldest at the door and now he's in middle school. I realized that everything I do with my youngest will be it. It was a horrible day to say the least. However, he loves school and his teacher, has lots of friends and is doing great. I thank God every day for this most precious gift.

Where does the time go, I sent my oldest off to college this year. It seems like yesterday she was going to preschool. I remember her climbing on the bus with a wave, and a smile like it was nothing, while I stood there crying for five minutes, before going into the house to cry some more. I have two more to go off to college in a few years, and it wasn't any easier with them. Kids grow up way to fast. All you can do is stand back, and let them grow and learn. But no matter how old they get they will always be my babies. Even when they are married and out of the house. There is nothing like having kids. It is the most precious gift.
