Hello bloggers... thanks for stopping by! It's hot and that is basically all you can say about the weather for the first few days of September! That heat will likely be with us into Friday before our overall pattern undergoes a significant change allowing for much cooler temps around here. Let's break it all down for you with the infamous weather headlines... 1. Thursday is going to be HOT! Highs in the 90-95 degree range across the region will give us the chance at the hottest temps of the year. 93 has been the highest for both Huntington and Charleston. 2. Speaking of... I found a rare temperature treat for you climatology buffs. Summer is officially the months of June through August and I was tallying up the numbers for Huntington and Charleston. Both cities recorded the exact same average temp for the summer of 2008... 73.4 degrees. Both cities have different "normal" summer averages. While our numbers came out the same... Huntington was .1 below normal while Charleston was 1.2 above normal. Charleston was also much wetter while Huntington was a bit below normal. Just thought you might enjoy some geeky weather stats! :) 3. Friday will see a cold front marching in from the west. This isn't a really strong front, but it will have some leftover tropical moisture from Gutav to work with. Clouds will increase during the day with a late day or evening shower possible. 4. The best chance for some clouds and showers will be Friday night into Saturday as this front should be right on top of us. How much rain is open for debate until we get a little closer. Highs Saturday may be held under 80 with enough clouds and showers. 5. Thermometers will bump back up into the low and mid 80s for Sunday and Monday just ahead of a cold front. This front will arrive on the scene late Monday into Tuesday with some scattered showers and storms. This front will be followed by MUCH cooler air for the rest of the week! Normal to below normal temps look good for much of next week and possibly into the following week. The tropics continue to rule the weather day with 3 named storms sitting out in the Atlantic...
The latest sta shot showing a strengthening Hanna and our major Hurricane Ike right behind Hanna... Here is the updated National Hurricane Center track for Hanna...
Here is the forecast NHC forecast track for Ike...
With 3 more tropical systems still on the board... our busy hurricane season is going to continue to keep us busy as we try to keep pace. That doesn't even include trying to keep up with our own changing weather across the tri-state. That is our number one job! Take care everybody.
