Good Sunday evening everyone. A WINTER WEATHER ADVOISORY is now out for much of the tri-state overnight into early Monday as a clipper dives in with a band of light to moderate snows. A general 1"-2" will be possible with local amounts to 3" possible. This will cause slick travel overnight into early tomorrow. That's all for now... I will have a bigger update later tonight so check back. Take care. PREVIOUS UPDATE Good Sunday to one and all. The major winter storm that blasted the tri state has left one heck of a mark with totals of 3"-30". Thousands of people remain without power after close to a foot of heavy wet snow fell across parts of the region. Travel was a nightmare as thousands, were stranded for a long period of time as the snow came down fast and furious. This was literally a life threatening snowstorm for many areas. Look at some of the totals... ***********************SNOW ON GROUND*********************** We will continue to see some light snows across the area early today before we break out into mostly cloudy skies. Our attention will quickly turn to a clipper moving in this evening into early Monday. Here are the radars to track the snows... A big storm will crank up in the days leading up to Christmas and should bring a wide variety of weather to us and that is something we will be talking much more about with an update coming later today. Have a great Sunday and take care. |

Posted by: weather fan I love this weather blog. I check it several times a day. We are so lucky to have this weather team and especially Chris. Posted by: Weather watcher Chris, Been pushing snow with my Toyota 4-runner. It does almost as good a job as you do. Thanks!!! We have 22 inches in Ghent. Posted by: snow lover With the snowpack in place, one would think the cold air would push the low to our south and east? Keep an eye on New Years. Some weather blogs/ sights are already pointing to storm 3.?.?. Posted by: BSE Power just came back on here in Ona. About a good 7" to 8" inch snowfall over this part of the area. Posted by: Westwood Snow Lover Hope it hits my area tonight!cause it sure did miss me with the last one! Posted by: LS Thanks Chris..... Posted by: LisaK With more snow coming lets hope Cabell Co. Schools has the brains to close schools for Monday. I mean seriously. Milton has 12 inches of snow and more coming tonight. They need to close even if its just for monday. Posted by: Anonymous You need to learn how to spell right. Haha, just kidding Chris... appreciate all you do on these blogs :) Posted by: snowlover how come my comments never get posted, if this does we love you chris and keep bringing us the snowy forecast Posted by: pj How ANYONE with just a remote knowledge of this area could criticize Chris or any of the WSAZ weather team is beyond me.....we should all know that 10 miles in any direction here can be the difference of a dusting of snow to 5". I have lived here all my life(and that's been awhile), and it's always been that way (although I admit, snows use to be a lot deeper, and more frequent...but I can't see how that is Chris's fault lol). This blog has done wonders for WSAZ weather watchers....and all those that beat up on Chris here sure seem to still be checking it out!!!!!!! GREAT JOB Chris, keep up the wonderful job you are doing. My compliments to Seriously....great comment!! Posted by: Binky In Scioto County, we received only 3" of snow, less on pavemment, so we were lucky or not so lucky, depending on one's viewpoint. I am concerned about the freezing rain the Weather Channel says we'll have on Christmas Eve. I'm more interested in what Chris has to say about it. Posted by: Becky WOW Chris you do a wonderful job with your blogs...I love reading them. Here is Branchland we got about 10.5 inches!! Posted by: LEISA IM WITH YOU LDP. ENOUGH OF WINTER. BRING ON SPRING. TIRED OF ELECTRIC GOING OUT EVERYTIME WE GET A LITTLE SNOW.... Posted by: Spencer Here in Williamson, up where i live we got 14inches Posted by: JBR 8.3'' of snow in my backyard in Hurricane as of Sat night. It was a good snow....But im still waiting for a good 20-30 inches like the mtns got. Posted by: Seriously? Ummm Marcus, perhaps you can start your own cable access channel-- may I suggest W-ONLYASHLAND as the call letters-- but if you'd realize that WSAZ's audience reaches way beyond Ashland you'd know that most of the people watching got buried in snow!! So... get over your ego-centric self and get on that cable channel thing. Posted by: hmmmm Places in Randolph county have over 2 feet... I know of one place that has 38 inches of the white stuff! Posted by: stacy chris are you crazy? Posted by: Greg The Christmas day storm looks like a rain producer which could cause water issues with some possible ice issues in the mountains early on. Interesting that the mods like to send the next low pressure to the lakes. This will put us in the warm air side of the storm and result in rain to snow situation. Really does not make sense based on the -NAO we have, which should send the storm to the East of us. Also what is interesting is that the really cold air that looked like would come into our area later in the extended period is not showing up. Chris..do you think the El Nino is having an impact? If it is then the very cold air may never make it in if we lose the -NAO as some are suggesting. Based on the pattern we are in we should have issues with storms missing us to our South with very cold dry air over us...makes me think the El Nino is going to be a big factor rest of Winter. Posted by: gary chris, thanks for your hard work it is very much appreciated, but the tools you have to work with are a bust. the nam showed paris,ky in the 6-8 range and we hardly got 1 inch friday night, saturday morning, and another 1 inch saturday night, sunday morning. i'll keep hoping for the next time. Posted by: jonathan we got 7 and hafe inches sat and another inch today Posted by: Westwood Snow Lover sure wish I had got some of the bigger snow, maybe next time the wind will blow just right and hit my area, thanks for all the updates Chris! Posted by: Matt Marcus, it's all relative. Maybe not the "Storm of Decade" for YOU but for a large part of Chris' viewing area is was. In Beckley, WV we received 25"...by far the most since 2000! Posted by: Tisha I need to get to the mall..soon. I will never put off shopping this late again. Thanks for your hard work keeping us informed Chris. Posted by: Marcus Um...I hardly call 3" the "Storm of the Decade". This was completely overhyped for the Ashland area. Posted by: Linda Adding our two cents' worth...or our inches worth...from the Eastern Panhandle.. we have a measured 27 inches, only two hours from the DC area which was hit hard also. No melting in sight, with low temps all week and additional snows expected. Posted by: LDP The snow was beautiful but the electric goes out every time so I say go away snow. Posted by: laiken watson Chris, is this going to be a snow clipper coming in Monday? Thanks for all you have posted about the weather. You have helped alot of people. In lawrence county ohio we have gotten 7in!!!! yayayyy bring on the snow. me and my brother love playing in it!!! Posted by: Kelly Thanks for the coverage Chris... now get some well deserved rest! Posted by: CARRIE WE HERE IN AMMA ON PINE GROVE ROAD GOT ABOUT 6 OR SO INCHES WE DIDNT LOOSE POWER YET BUT SNOW IS STILL FALLING OFF TREES AND SUCH AND EVERYONE AROUND US IS BASICLY WITHOUT POWER SO WE WERE LUCKY WE DO HAVE A FEW TREES TO CLEAN UP AROUND THE PROPERTY AND STUFF AND BIG LIMB HAS FALLEN ON OUR TRAILER ROOF BUT THAT IS ABOUT IT WELL MERRY CHRISTMAS, STAY SAFE AND GOD BLESS |
