Good Sunday afternoon my fellow weather lovers. Your friendly weatherdude is just dropping by for a quick update on the batch of light snow that is moving in this evening and on how the rest of the week ahead is looking.
The snow is breaking out just ahead of a pocket of very cold air rotating in from the northwest. As expected... temps ahead of the clouds and snow warmed into the 40s but that has no bearing on the light snow moving in. This will likely put down a small accumulation of an inch or less across a few areas. You can track the snows here...
Snow flurries and snow showers will continue into Monday with highs in the upper 20s to near 30. Another batch of snow will move in Monday evening into Monday night as northwesterly winds strengthen. This is the setup that can deliver another light accumulation... with the mountains doing pretty well. Upper 20s again for highs on Tuesday.
That brings us to the middle and end of the week. The models are going toward less phasing of the jet streams, meaning a weaker storm. Still this will bring snows to our region beginning later Wednesday and lasting into the weekend. How much depends on a lot of factors and we still have several days to see them play out. Even if the storm coming out of the gulf is fairly weak... the arctic plunge moving in will likely produce some very good snows around here from Friday into Saturday... some very good ones. Here is how the European Model looks...
That is minus 20 air showing up at 850mb across the area. Brrrrrrr! That can produce teens for highs on Saturday. Ok... that's all I have for you right now. Have a good evening and keep us updated on the light snow moving in. Take care.
Good Sunday to one and all. I will keep this update rather brief since I will have a few more for you guys coming later today. We have a ton of things to get to as our weather pattern as we roll into January is really threatening to become one that is talked about for years to come. December may have only been the warning shot as to what is to come for much of the country!
In the short term... we have a weak system that will be moving in quickly late this afternoon into the evening hours. This will produce a swath of light snow that can lay down a light accumulation in many areas... especially in the north and east. Ahead of all this... we will likely see some sun to start the day and this will boost temps into the upper 30s and low 40s. You can track the increasing batch of light snow here...
Monday will bring even colder air to the region as snow showers and flurries continue. Highs will struggle to get out of the 20s. There is another little system that dives in Monday night across the east. This may also help to produce some light snows.
That brings us to the middle and end of the week and what is likely to be a winter storm threat for much of the eastern half of the country. The models are all showing this... but they can't figure out if they want to send out a couple of smaller storms or one monster! That is something they will resolve over the next day or so as all the players get on the field for the models to properly analyze.
Either way... we stand a good chance at getting in on some snow fun from late Wednesday into the New Year's Weekend. I will get more into that later today so check back.
Have a great day and take care.
