Good Saturday and welcome to the weekend. We have a soggy day on tap and this is the kickoff of a not so nice Super Bowl weekend of weather. All eyes are searching for anything looking remotely like winter and next week is going to try to turn our heads. Winter is such a flirt, sometimes.

Rain is the name of the game out there today. Low pressure is slowly working across the plains states and this is causing widespread rain to break out today. The rain will be locally heavy at times today into tonight. There could be some rumbles of thunder across our southern counties. Keep an eye on the far north and into the WV mountains for the chance for a mix or a little snow.

.

Temps today will show a nice little north-south gradient once again. Readings in the north won’t stray too far from 40 while temps in the south soar toward 50.

Super Bowl Sunday will start out with soggy conditions and chilly temps with readings in the upper 30s. There could even be a wet flake trying to mix in with the rain. Things will try to slowly dry out during the afternoon hours… especially across the north.

The changes for next week look to show up a little quicker than first thought. Colder air will be in place for the first half of the week. Energy hanging back across the southern plains will then try to work northeast into the Tennessee Valley by Wednesday and this could become a snow maker for parts of the Ohio Valley and that may include us. Take a look at the GFS Ensembles to see what I’m talking about…

All of the models are now showing a similar setup and a few of them are becoming more robust with this wave of low pressure working in here. That has the look of an overrunning setup and is one for us to keep an eye on.

It’s also worth noting all the models are going toward a similar setup to what the earlier run of the European was showing. They are not to that extreme… but do imply some very nice blocking setting up leading to a big dip in the jet stream across the eastern part of the country. The Polar Vortex shows up well on the latest GFS run…

That is a nice ridge extending way up into western Canada with the deep trough across the eastern part of the country. That’s about all I can tell you at this point… but that’s a pattern we haven’t seen much of this winter and is usually good for cold and snow lovers.

I will update things later today. Have a great Saturday and take care.

Marion County, OH at 9:30 am Snow and 32 degrees. Winds from the east at 6 mph. Barometer reads 30.27 inches. Wet snow falling over the last hour has put down a quick coating on the ground. Expecting 1-2 inches to fall through the day.

good sat. morning from the town of wayne. currently the time is 7:30am with cloudy dkies with a temp of 42 after a low of 40 degrees. looks like the rain is not to far away and once it arrives it may be with us for a little while. looks like my prediction for a wild feb. and march, weather wise may be on the way according to most models now. i did ask the question several weeks ago how about snow on easter and mothers day this year. well mothers day may be stretching it but you get the picture. thanks for reading and god bless.
