6pm Update

Good Monday evening everybody and thanks for making the blog one of your weather stops. Snow and cold lovers have had a tough go at it this winter and many are ready to throw in the towel. Old Man Winter tries to make a comeback this week with a couple of snow chances.

The first chance moves in Tuesday night and Wednesday as a weak wave of low pressure works northeastward across the Tennessee Valley. This throws some light rain and light snow into our region. I’m a little more bullish on this system than earlier and I suspect temps will be colder than the models are showing. As a matter of fact… their new runs are coming in a few degrees lower.

The NAM shows the area that has a shot at a small, slushy accumulation…

The GFS appears to be a tad colder and thus a little better chance at some flakes…

Let’s not get carried away with this as it’s not going to amount to much. But, it’s something to track during these desperate snow times.

Something else we have to track is a blast of cold for the coming weekend that may be accompanied by some snow. The European would give us a shot at snow Friday night and Saturday…

That’s a cold look with a reinforcing shot arriving Sunday. This model is not alone in showing the snow chances…

Canadian Friday Night/Saturday Morning

JMA Saturday Morning

With a different looking pattern… Let’s see where the ride takes us this week.

Have a great evening and take care.

Previous Update

Good Monday, everyone. I hope you had a great Super Bowl Weekend and enjoyed the unofficial national holiday. The day after the big day is one usually featuring a lot of folks calling in sick. Use ’em if you got ‘em. :) It’s shaping up to be a good-looking start to a week that actually features the chance for some… drumroll please… snow!

Our Monday will start off with frost and fog and temps in the upper 20s and low 30s. Readings will rebound into the upper 40s to near 50 for many areas under partly to mostly sunny skies.

Tuesday will feature another nice day with clouds on the increase and temps back into the 40s.

Those clouds are ahead of a weak wave of low pressure passing through the Tennessee Valley Tuesday night into Wednesday. This will cause light rain and light snow to develop across the entire region by early Wednesday. Temps are marginal with this system and that means a mix of rain and snow for Wednesday. The farther north you live… the better the chance for some light accumulations.

Check out the GFS precipitation type forecast…

That is generally light precipitation and the warm ground will assure us of a lot of melting. There is another weak disturbance coming in behind this for Wednesday night and Thursday morning and that should keep some light snow and flurries going.

That takes us into the end of the week and into the coming weekend. The models continue to advertise a big dip in the jet stream across the eastern half of the country. This dip will allow for the coldest air we’ve had in a while to work in here (that’s not saying much). Will it spawn a storm to our south or along the east coast? The seasonal trend says no, but an argument can certainly be made for it based purely on the pattern.

Last night into Today marks the 4 year anniversary of the Super Tuesday outbreak and it spawned 87 tornadoes with the bluegrass state taking a direct hit. Parts of Ohio and West Virginia received wind damage from weakening storms.

That was a wicked night of weather and one many of you surely remember.

That winter was rather mild and snowless through February and has been similar to this one. Early March of that year then brought a crippling snowstorm to many areas.

Have a great Monday and take care.

good monday evening from the town of wayne. under mostly cloudy skies the temp is a seasonable 42 degrees after a high today of 51 which is not to far from normal this time of year after the low dipped to a frosty cold low of 28 degrees. looks as though we may finally be starting up a wintry pattern that may very well take us all the way into april and possibly some of may. i have asked many times already in the past few weeks. snow on easter? how about mothers day? well mothers day may be stretching it but you get the picture. spring is going to be delayed and winter is only been delayed but definitely not denied this year. look for us to have a very cold and wet spring. we had spring in dec. and jan. and now we are going to have winter in feb. march, april and possible some of may. buckle up for a wild ride my friends. the snow train is just now leaving the station. thanks for reading and god bless. the time of this comment is 6:45pm
