6pm Update

Good Wednesday evening to one and all. Our taste of winter had a short, but beautiful, stay across the region. The snow worked out according to plan and we are now left with a few furries and snow showers into the overnight.

Where do we go from here?

A seasonal chill will be with us on Thursday as temps hit the low 40s under partly sunny skies. That’s a ho-hum kinda weather day.

The action begins to pick up on Friday as an arctic front dives southeastward into the region. This front should have a weak wave of low pressure along it and will be able to produce some decent precipitation. The models are really beginning to pick up on this…

GFS Ensembles

That should be a touch of rain to start Friday evening, but the thermal profile cools quickly meaning a rapid change to snow. This would continue into Saturday morning with snow showers and flurries around into the rest of the day. That’s a scenario that can put down a light accumulation for many areas.

Saturday will be a very wind and cold day with temps staying in the 20s. Lows by Sunday take a dive into the low and mid teens.

The pattern into next week is ripe for some overrunning moisture. This means we should be on guard for some wintry weather in the form of snow, mix and/or rain. You can see this setup on the following models…

 JMA

Have a great evening and take care.

Previous Update

Good Wednesday to one and all. Today is going to remind us that it's still winter out there as we get in on a touch of some light snow. This won't amount to a whole heck of a lot as much of it will be melting on contact with a mild ground.

A slushy accumulation is possible on grassy and elevated surfaces today into this evening. Air temps should stay just above freezing for most of the day and this means more melting that sticking. Parts of the coalfields may even get in on some rain mixing in from time to time.

Let's track the blast of winter...

Help us out by posting the weather conditions from where you live. I will have an update later in the day to talk about the chance for snow with an arctic front for the weekend. Have a great Wednesday and take care.

um, yes I'd like to order 3-5 inches of snow for friday night. thanks!

Well, we awoke to a covering of around 1/2 inch at 7 am. The plan was to head up into the remote depths of Webster County for the day, into the absolutely stunning Hacker Valley.. even more so with the steep tree-lined mountainsides having accumulated a lot more snow than we had in Nicholas County! Oh, and it was strictly 4WD at times.. maybe 5 inches of snow had fallen by the time we arrived at our remote destination near Cleveland. Arrived back home around 4 pm, temp around 31F to find around 4 inches had settled everywhere with the trees hanging heavy with snow although unlike Webster County's narrow, steep mountain roads, the roads were mainly clear here.

Chris, thanks for all the weather info, beautiful snow covering, for awhile, just west of Wellston, Now I'm ready for spring, though by the sounds of it, we may have a few more snowy days coming up.

We had about 1/2 inch of snow on the ground this morning and it lasted till about 11:30 or noon. Now (6:00 PM) the snow is pretty much melted except a few places on the trees.

Little white this morning on the way to work. Snow was falling then gave way to a drizzle and snow. It was nice to see some little white things in a winter of hardly any snow. Thanks for all the hard work Chris!!

good late afternoon/early evening from the town of wayne. 5:15pm with cloudy skies and no trace at all of the coating of snow that fell early this morning. currently the temp is 40 after a high today of 42 which is a little warmer than was forecasted with the low dipping down to 35 so far. todays snow did prove 1 thing and that is it does not need to be below freezing for snow to stick. the artic front for saturday is starting to look a little more robust on some of the models in terms of snow fall. right now i would probably go with 1 to 3 inches based on models as of right now with some areas a little less and some a little more. thanks for reading and god bless.
