Feels Like Spring, But Signs of Winter Will Return

A look at the next potential for snowfall in our region.

This afternoon bought a taste of Spring to our region, with highs in the upper 50s and blue skies overhead. The good news is that this Spring-like trend will continue for tomorrow, with highs flirting with 60°F. Tomorrow night, a cold front will bring a quick shot of rain late in the evening, with a few possible snowflakes by dawn. The higher elevations may even see a dusting with an upslope flow that develops. Regardless, this system will have low impact on travel, especially with the majority of the event hitting while most of us are sleeping. In the wake of the cold front, conditions will be slightly cooler in our region, as highs top out in the upper 40's Sunday. Yet, this cool down won't last long, as near 60° temperatures are expected both Monday and Tuesday.

The main area of focus in the 7-day forecast is the Thursday morning time period...

The GFS expects the system to pass by our region quickly. As the cold air advances into our region Thursday morning, the system is far northeast of our region. On the other hand, the European model expects the system to pass by slowly and has the system closer to our region Thursday morning as the cold air moves in. The latter outlook would bring heavier snowfall to our region.
