Storm Chances For Back To School Week

Monday brought us a beautiful kick-off to the work week, with highs in the 80s under sunny skies. Unfortunately, we will see a few bumps in the road this week with storm chances, especially heading into the Friday night time period.

It sure felt like summer today, with highs in the mid to upper 80s joined by plenty of sunshine. But, summer is coming to an end for many children this week, as school kicks-off in areas of the region.  As a result,  many folks are trying to squeeze in some last minute outdoor activities for that final "taste" of summer. Here is a look at what to expect the rest of this week, with storm chances bringing a few bumps in the road...

The first storm chance heads our way tomorrow. Already tonight, we are seeing small isolated showers tracking through our northern counties. These showers will likely fade, before showers and storms move in from the northwest along a cold front...

Looking at the breakdown of tomorrow's forecast above, you can see that the storm and shower chance isn't very impressive;but, it is still something of note. Downpours are not expected, with the dark green shading staying to our north (which indicates heavier rainfall). In fact, many periods of dryness should occur. The main time period for rain chances is in the afternoon, and will likely fade in the evening (with the 11 PM time frame showing dry conditions returning to the area).

Thursday will bring a mostly pleasant forecast, with breaking sunshine into the afternoon and highs in the lower 80s. Humidity will be low, but we will start to feel the humidity rise heading into Friday. This will occur ahead of the next storm chance heading our way...

A storm system from the west will track further east into our region for Friday afternoon, and by Friday night, we will see storm chances return. Notice how areas north of I-64 will see a heavy rain potential Friday night (lower panel in above picture). This storm chance is looking stronger than Wednesday's, and will likely linger into the weekend.

Have a great night!
