The Warm Up and Mothers Day Weekend Preview

The hottest day we have seen yet this year is expected tomorrow, but this hot & dry trend won't last long...

While we saw today's temperatures warming into the 80s for much of the region, tomorrow is looking to be even warmer. A strong southwest flow will be established, with warm air advection hard at work...

This shows temperature forecast for the 850mb level of the atmosphere. Temperatures pull to almost 20°C, which translates to the upper 80s at the surface. However, with how dry the ground is, we should see several areas approach 90°F.

Don't get too used to this dry summer feel, because a cold front will approach Friday bringing a slight cool down and a chance of showers...

Notice how the showers aren't expected until later Friday, which will leave us with a mainly dry forecast that day (1st panel above). Also, Saturday showers hang over head for the morning and early afternoon, but notice the drier air behind that initial shower band for mid-afternoon on Saturday (2nd panel above). The shower chances for Sunday will also be scattered. Luckily, it won't be an all-weekend downpour for Mother's Day weekend!

The GFS model depiction below shows temperatures will remain warm Monday, but the mid-week hints at another cool down.
