Boys Will Be Boys.

I'm just back from visiting the family in Orlando. I wish I could say the weather was balmy and beautiful but it wasn't. For the most part it was chilly and rainy but I can't complain. I was able to meet my precious new nephew Colin and spend lots of time with his big brother Connor.

I love Colin, but he spent most of the weekend snuggling, sleeping and eating. He's only 3 weeks old so I wasn't expecting much :)

On the other hand, Connor (who just turned 4) was a total riot! He has this great spiked hair that everyone loves. He's a really stylish kid if I do say so myself! I think I hugged him at least 3 times an hour.  He kept patting me on the head and telling me that I was a "good boy" and then I would say "I'm a GIRL" and he would say "You're a good girl" and laugh and run away. He also did this to his mom and my mom, and we figured out that it was a big game and that he truly thinks he's funny (and really, he IS hilarious.)

He wore his pirate hat and carried his pirate sword to dinner with us, but since he didn't have a parrot to perch on his shoulder, he improvised and used a giant reptile instead. He said "Argh" a lot, which reminded me of Todd Borek. Todd is constantly saying "Argh" pretending that he's a pirate, even though he's 30-something. Boys will be boys.

The stories are endless and I have such sweet memories to hold onto for a while.

I cried on the plane ride home just thinking about them.  There were some WSAZ and My Z fans on the plane who probably think I am a sulky depressed woman :)

But truly, the biggest drawback about living so far away from family is that I miss out on such a large part of their lives. I try to see them as much as possible so that the little ones don't forget me!

My friend Julie also came up for a quick visit (she lives in Tampa) so it was a good visit all around.  We went to downtown Orlando and ran into some "interesting" people. This included a guy dressed in a "Cowboy" outfit who just couldn't understand why I kept calling him a cowboy.  Granted, it was almost 3:00 in the morning and he had probably been partying all night.  But normally when you're wearing a huge cowboy hat, chaps and cowboy boots, people are going to think you're a cowboy right?

Posted by: joe jessica i'm needing some help in trying to get a song to brad paisley,it is a hit.you can go to myspace site and listen for yourself and if you don't agree, but i know you will like the song, you can forget about this request.i am pretty sure there is nothing that anyone at wsaz can do to help me,but nothing ventured nothing gained.i am a member of "the nashville song writers asso."i am not just pulling your chain. well keep up the good work.

Posted by: shelby All you can do is cherish the moments you have with them, as they get older each visit will be a new experience, they grow up so fast. My family lives in Florida too and it's been about 8yrs. since we've seen each other in person. Between kids, jobs and life it makes it hard for us to get our schedules even close together. Make each visit special too, like everytime you visit, just you and Connor go for icecream alone. When Colin gets older the 3 of you can make it a tradition. Believe me they'll look forward to it everytime. Plus it's a great time to spoil them without getting in trouble!!

Posted by: Jim Jessica, I know how you feel, my second growing up period was in the military, si I feel your sadness in missing so much of everyday family life. But that only teaches yo to appreciate them more for the time you get to spend with them. On a more ego-ish point I see where you get your good looks.

Posted by: Mrs. Pirate Borek Those boys are so beautiful, Jess....and you look like your mom! Next month your weather guy, the boyish thirty-something, and I are heading to Disney World with his nieces and nephews...and we all know who's going to get his face painted, mug with Mickey Mouse, and scream to ride Space Mountain one more time. No telling what he'll do at Pirates of the Caribbean.

Posted by: Eric Sorry for the 2nd Post but I re-read the Blog and could not help but laugh as it reminds me of the skit you guys did where Todd dressed up like a Pirate and took Pennys change out of her Car. The really funny part was that Jessica came to the rescue at the end and Todd ended up in not so good of shape, LOL!

Posted by: Joe But you know Jessica while we are apart from are families it makes us really focus on spending all the time with them when we finally do get to visit. Instead of focus on something else. So some times absent truly makes the heart fonder.

Posted by: Eric Looks like your Nephew really enjoys your company! I can relate to your feelings as my Family lives away too and I only get to see them a couple times a year. BTW Great Pictures!

Posted by: Jessica Dianna, I'm his aunt so it's my job to spoil him right :) However, I must point out that you guys do a pretty good job of keeping him stocked with toys (and great hairstyles!) I miss you all so much already ): Hopefully we will get together again soon! (Sea World here we come!)

Posted by: Dianna You forgot to mention that when we told Connor you were coming he said "yeah open presents". You have completely spoiled Connor with the rest of us and he associates you with opening presents.

Posted by: Debbie Well, Jessica, another thing we have in common! I too live a distance from family (not as far as you) but work kids activities etc keep me from seeing them a whole lot. Yes little boys are cute, so are little girls. When my son was 2, I worked evenings part time and we often would watch "the price is rice" together, that's what he called it, he too had a fixation with the pirate thing. When my daughter was 2/12, we were leaving the Red lobster and a crowd had packed into the waiting area. My husband was in front with my son, my daughter then myself trailing behind. Out of the blue my daughter said "oh,oh, Daddy warted" My husband started to laugh, my face turned red, I was sorta glad her speech wasn't that clear. Yes kids are hilarious, they grow up too fast. Mine are teens now.

Posted by: Kerry Jessica... I understand how you feel. I have family in Philly and I get to see them once or twice a year. I cherish the time I have with them. My kids are more closer in age to my sister's kids than they are to my husband's nieces and nephews, and enjoy playing with them more. We email and call each other constantly, which helps to ease the distance. Then again, being away keeps me out of the family arguments!
