Either way, you just can't avoid it. This is why I'm blogging about it 2 weeks ahead of time. The stores are chock-full of Valentine's Day merchandise. You just can't avoid it! They have been plastering this stuff all over the place since just after Christmas actually. I'm almost shocked that they aren't already filling the shelves with a mass quantity of decorations for the 4th of July already.

Anyways, I've always liked Valentine's Day. It's a bit commercial, but it's a sweet holiday and if you're single it doesn't have to be miserable. I remember one year when my best friend and I were in college and both single at the same time. So, we were each others "dates". We got each other cute cards and went out for dinner amid the land of loving gushing happy couples. We had a good time.
My friends and I still send each other Valentines and my mom usually sends some out too. It's just a good way to let people know that you love them. I say this because I did have 1 year where I was a very bitter woman and angrily jumped on the "down with Valentine's Day" bandwagon. I think my boyfriend and I had just broken up and it was my first V-Day without him. To be honest, I don't think I even missed him. I was probably more upset that I wouldn't be getting roses and some chocolate :)
This year I have big plans for Valentine's Day. I have to work. Sarcasm intended. Maybe I'll have a romantic date with the guy at the drive-thru down the street. I'll pull up and place my order. He'll give me a bag full of food that I shouldn't eat. We'll lock eyes over a combo meal and our fate will be sealed. It's a dream!
Actually, I will probably celebrate and have a nice dinner out, a few days after the fact (as always.) But no doubt, the spirit of Valentine's Day will still be carried deep within my heart :)
Welcome to February!
Jessica
P.S. Don't forget that Friday, February 1st is "Go Red for Women Day". Wear red to support awareness about heart disease in women!
