Super Tuesday. Super Confusing.

Seriously. the confusion surrounding today's GOP convention and voting process has reached epic proportions. We've tried to make it clear for everyone to understand, but let's face it, it IS confusing.

I can't tell you how many people have written e-mails and called the newsroom asking questions about just what's going on. As a matter of fact, some showed up at polling places and the clerk's office to try and vote today, not realizing that the primary is actually in May.

We've had countless talks in the newsroom about just how muddled this process has become and how we can try to explain it.

It's a challenge to say the least. I have a feeling that next time around, things might be a little different.

With that said, we now know that the Republican Party gave Mike Huckabee the win in West Virginia.

But here's something you might not know (and might find a bit funny). When our reporters came back from the convention they told us some of the delegates who were voting didn't know his name.

They were calling him Huckle-bee, Huckleberry and Huck-a-bear until someone finally stood up and shouted, "His name is HUCKABEE!"   These are the moments when one wishes the camera was rolling. On a side note, this reminded me of the first time I ever said Barack Obama's name on the air and I completely botched it. It was bad and people were quick to let me know :)

Back to the task at hand. It was the votes for Huckabee today that thrust West Virginia into the national spotlight. No matter what colors you wear, red or blue, you've got to admit that it's great thing that these candidates spent part of their time here  on such an important day.

That in itself, gives us reason to be proud.

Posted by: james i think now still as i did when george bush won the first election.our votes dont count or mean anything its all the ele college votes that count.if ours counted george bush would never have been president as al gore won the popular vote which is me and you.its a darn shame as i alway took pride in my vote which i have done since i turned 18 but i didnt vote last election and i wont vote this time. when they do away wit hthe ele votes and start counting the peoples vote then i'll go back to voting regular.

Posted by: allison. im just glad im not voting yet :]

Posted by: Charlie Seems the Bush administrations election practices are spreading! I pray this don't happen but the people who brought us George Bush almost 8yrs ago who I am sure have their candidate this time around will if need be ready to force them on the American people once again to secure & advance their interests in our country. From the looks of this election so far they are still having their way. Everyone needs to remember the way George Bush took office. I believe this Dem./ Rep. differences we make amongst ourselves only blurs our vision when looking for a candidate to vote for & this is exactly what these people want, for us to be distracted while they put who they want it office. Evidently our voice wasn't heard when we cleaned house last year! Oh My bad it was heard but completely ignored. We need a leader who will make The American peoples interest 1st. priority instead of special interests. Who do you think George was looking out for ?

Posted by: Stephen Do You understand this process? How am I legally denied my freedoms of religion or speech or my civil or human rights? I Do exist, I am human and I do live in the United States as a Legalized citizen who happens to be LGBT.

Posted by: JeffL Hey Jess, I don't think you realized what a can of worms this blog would open up!!People here in WV are very passionate about politics, both Democrat and Republican. When the WV Republican party decided to let 1200 people decide West Virginia's Republican Presidential nominee for over 300,000 registered republicans, they lost what little credibility they had left. Maybe next time they will just let Don Blankenship decide it publically instead of just buying the elections like they have let him do in the past. I would like to know when people will wake up and start demanding responsibility from party leaders instead of just b-----g about it behind closed doors.

Posted by: jim does it really matter. people act like getting out and voting actually counts. doesn't anyone remember when the people elected al gore but the election was bought by bush instead. what's the point in voting if ur vote doesn't matter.

Posted by: Alessa Exactly what is it that we're supposed to be proud of? That two of the major Republican candidates came to West Virginia to participate in a subversion of the democratic process? You've got to be kidding me. Proud? I'm ashamed.

Posted by: Stephen I listened to Mr. Huckabee's acceptance speech for the republican nomination in Arkansas and I have since listened to his speech requesting the nominations in West Virginia. My conclusion: WE DO NOT NEED A PRESIDENT TO SPREAD HATE! Our Honorable Governor Joe Manchin delivered his STATE OF THE STATE address and showed great enthusiasm for School Spirit, State Pride, Empowering our teachers (which i am not), and most of all ACCEPTANCE. All leading to a state of DIVERSITY! In My opinion "DIVERSITY" should be a mandatory class prior to graduation from HIGH SCHOOL and continuously taught by every LICENSED Educator.

Posted by: Pathlighter this whole thing is confusing....there wasnt even polling booths? how can this be the candidate of choice if the people havent voted? sounds shady.....is wv becoming like florida when it comes to polling and elections??? shame shame...

Posted by: James I agree with this 100% too. The head of the WV Republican Party angered me in an interview he had on a talk radio show the other day. He said that if you are not actively involved in the party then you would have heard about this. I was offended. I already know who I want to vote for and I am waiting for the Primary. He said a convention allows you to vote for the next candidate if your candidate doesn't make it in the first round. I don't want to vote for other candidates. They are democrats taking the name of Republicans and I cannot and will not vote for them. Leave the Primary the way it is or next time let everyone Dems and Repubs vote in February like the rest of the country does. WV-still closed for business and voting!

Posted by: Moe I agree 100% with Jim and Cliff!! How dare our state GOP decide behind closed doors (because I sure did not hear about it)that the registered Republican voters in WV would not be given a voice in the selection of our presidential nominee! And don't tell me that our delegates were our voice because I want, and am entitled to, the RIGHT to choose our next president. I am so outraged and appalled at the way this was handled! I love West Virginia, but sometimes I think we have the most inept and incompetent people running this state.

Posted by: Cliff I would like to thank the State GOP for disenfranchiseing me. They stole mu vote from me then stole Romney's vote and gave it to McCain via Huckabee, I am certainly proud to be a Republican, however, I doubt that I will ever support the party. I am a conservative voter with no place to go so why not vote Democratic?

Posted by: Stephen The above website will show you how similar Mike Huckabee's speech was on SUPER TUESDAY as compared to our Governor, Joe Manchin of the State of West Virginia. I'm praying that Governor Manchin's intentions are to better all human kind rather than humiliate or destroy lives by delivering HATE messages. I do feel that Mr. Huckabee's message has an evil approach on a speech that was given to lift our spirits by our Honorable Governor Joe Manchin. West Virginian's believe in a strong family bond, we believe in our GOVERNOR and we DO NOT believe in HATE!

Posted by: JIM Although Mr Huckabee is my choice I still don't understand how he "won" in West Virginia when NOT A SINGLE VOTE BY A REGISTERED VOTER HAS BEEN CAST AT A PRECINCT POLLING PLACE. Whatever happened to "every vote counts" or is this "vote early and vote often" in practice?

Posted by: Steve Jessica, I love reading your blogs. It seems no matter what the topic, (good or bad) you always have something positive to say. I always look forward to checking in to see you have written something new!
