A Win for My Z.

New parents are always so proud and excited when their baby has a "first". The first time the baby rolls on it's back, the first time the baby crawls, the baby's first tooth!

For the past year and a half, My Z Ten O'Clock news has been my baby. I'm the Executive Producer and have been with the Z since before it was "born."

So, I have to tell you that I really am proud of my "Z" baby. Over the weekend, the West Virginia Broadcaster's Association named "My Z Ten O'Clock News" as "Best Nightly Newscast" in West Virginia. We received some other top honors, but the My Z win is the one that really made my heart flutter.

When it comes to launching a newscast,  there are always major ups and downs and plenty of struggles. We still aren't perfect and face challenges every day (like not being available on Dish Network). We've also seen other stations try to launch a new 10 p.m. newscast without success. So for the past 18 months, I've been a bit stressed worrying about the success of My Z.

But being recognized by the WVBA above the other long-established newscasts is really such an honor. I feel like my baby rolled over, crawled and cut her first tooth all at once. I am proud and grateful to all of the people who work their tails off each and every day to make our newscast come together.

      Thanks to everyone!

Jessica

P.S. Do you think this whole baby thing is related to my constant cravings for chocolate?

Posted by: Sue Congratulations - hard work deserves to reap the rewards!

Posted by: Hugh Congrats on the award. Sadly,we dont get MyZ here in Omar,WV. Although a mere two miles away my sister gets it through Charter. I am on Colane Corp and we have tried to get them to add MyZ several times, hopefully they will listen soon. Is there any chance that MyZ newscast could be streamed online the way the regular WSAZ newscast is streamed each day? I think that would make a lot of us happy and maybe even get your channel out there and get the cable companies on the ball. Take care and keep up the good work. You are beautiful, talented and seem down to earth as well. Again, congrats on the award, hopefully I can catch more of your "baby" in the future.

Posted by: jose Jessica: congratultions for the award You all deserve it It is a new format, refreshing, innovative, interesting very pleasant to see all the time I am a new fan and enjoy all of your performance Keep the good work

Posted by: hope actually michelle...they didn't lose.

Posted by: Monica You people are pathetic. Stop complaining about some stupid contest. You LOST! You LOST! Get over it. That's why it's a contest, someone must lose.

Posted by: Hope I'm pretty close to a certain contestant, and all i hope is that this contest is judged equally. I've already heard many rumors going around with it, and i just pray that the judges don't feel any obligation to let a contestant through according to their relationship with them. I enjoy hearing all information about the contest, and i'm so excited to finally get to see it televised b/c everyone will get to see the talent that is in this show. When it is over, we will all be able to see if it really is a true talent competetion...so lets just hope that everything is done fairly and correctly!

Posted by: FUNNY EVERYBODY COME OUT TO A FREE COMEDY SHOW, SATURDAY THE 22 AT THE FUNNY BONE, CALLED THE KARAOKE STARZ.

Posted by: Jessica Ralston Michelle, I'm really sorry to hear about your experience with the Karaoke contest. Honestly though, I don't know much about it. I work on the My Z newscast and the newscast only, a different department handles the Karaoke show. I will forward your comments though to the right people so they know that you had a bad experience.

Posted by: Michelle Newton I love MyZ and the idea behind the karoke star show but If all the contestants pick are like the last two auditions I went to they show will be the laughing stock of huntington. They are being picked for how much skin they are showing or because they are drunk and know the judges. I would think you are supposed to be able to sing in order to win but that has not been the cause where I have been. The Paddock was a joke, the judges did not show so it was supposed to be judged on crowd response yeah right the 5 that were picked only a couple could carry a few notes but were so drunk they could barely stand. The three contestants that got the best crowd response did not even place. I am not saying this because I think I am better than anyone else, I just do not want the good name of the Channel to go down in flames as the joke of the town due to a trashy rigged showing for the first and maybe last karoke star.

Posted by: KD wow! That's great..congrats!! I wish I could get MyZ. We have dishnetwork so we don't get it unfortunately.

Posted by: Anonymous The reason M Z was name best nightly newscast may have somethime to do with you wounderful Job plus the best folks to work with. Plus I am like eric Jess you deserve it! I have Direct TV and wish I could see it!!! Plus your rock lady

Posted by: Debbie We have suddenlink and we have to adjust the cable connector to get a good picture on My Z. Don't know why but we do, if you have cable you might want to try that.

Posted by: Jessica Ralston Katy and Patty: I think the problems with the picture might be on the cable companies side. My Z is a digital broadcast and so it's transmitted with a perfect picture. Also, the My Z picture on Suddenlink is clear and there aren't any problems with the color. So, it's probably your cable provider. Give them a call and let me know what happens. I hope this helps!

Posted by: Patty I was watching the Ky game on MYZ last night and the picture looked awful. Their faces were pink! Maybe Katy is right about some issues with the station. Anyone else notice anything??

Posted by: Debbie R. Congratulations Jessica! Well deserved and much appreciated I am sure! You deserve it and so much more! I am so proud of you! Keep up the great work Jessica! Dedication and hard work do have its rewards. :)Love from Florida!

Posted by: Tara I loved watching My Z. I have DirecTV now however and can't get your station. Is there any chance of it ever being available for the sat. tv companies?

Posted by: Allen Congrats on the wins!! I believe that you should win all the awards!! Best news on tv.

Posted by: Katy Jessica, Congrats on your success on MYZ. I wanted to bring to your attention, I don't know if anyone else in the Ashland area notice but on MYZ news the picture quality looks bad. The faces on you all look so washed out, like a glare is on them and it doesn't look good. Even with the washed out look, you still are a beautiful lady. It is not my TV. I just recently got a new set. Channel 3 everyone looks great, it is just MYZ doesn't look good. I have noticed it for a long time now, but didn't mention it before. But now with all the success you have had and being the executive producer I felt you should know. PLEASE..if anyone else out there in TV land has noticed this please let Jessica and the others know. I love MYZ and WSAZ always have and always will!!! You go Girl!!!!!

Posted by: Penny Moss Jessica is too modest to share the other impressive awards she raked in: Best TV Reporter and Best Anchor in West Virginia! You make us proud every day, sister.

Posted by: ashlander congratulations!! i always like watching you on the news you keep it interesting!!!!!!!!

Posted by: Debbie Congrats Jess, oh BTW ask Chris did he really mean 1971 this morning? The 14th state that came in the union in 1971? Then he said in case any of you were alive waaaayy back then, made me feel downright old! I kept thinking is that a trick question or just a mistake.

Posted by: NATE THINK COMCAST WILL EVER SHOW MYZ???

Posted by: Shelby Congrats Jessica, I wish I could see it, hopefully soon I will. Hard work and determination pay off. Hope this year gets even better!!!! P.S. Congrats to all involved!!!!
