Eat More. Weigh Less.

Well my friends, 2 weeks into the new eating plan and I've lost about 7 pounds. This is really exciting and honestly I already feel better.

I'm eating 5-6 small meals a day. High-protein, low-carb and lots of greens. I have to tell you, I really am used to it already. It's amazing!  Today we begin 9 weeks of training for the 5k "Rainbow Run" so that should help out even more.

I've been getting tons of e-mails from people who are also trying to step away from "Couch Potato" syndrome and it's been very encouraging.  So, I wanted to give a little update to let everyone know I am still on track. Of course I do get cravings every now and then, but when I think about falling off the wagon, I realize it's just not worth it. French fries taste great but they aren't going to make me look great when it's time to hit the pool this summer (:

I did have a slight relapse that involved an Easter basket filled with chocolate, but I don't want to go into too much detail. Let's just say I knew I was wrong and it won't happen again (:

It's been nice reading everyone's advice and secrets on getting in shape, so please keep them coming.  We're heading into April and with summer just around the corner, this is the perfect time to get off the couch and get moving!

Posted by: Lisa You don't look like you need to lose any weight, but I am glad you feel better. A lot of people probably look at you and wish they were as little as you. I need to eat a little healthier myself and exercise more!

Posted by: Malyka I work out at the YMCA almost everyday and am following the Weight Watchers point system. In the past week, I've lost 12 lbs. Hope this Friday I'll see more pounds down. I just weigh myself once a week and work out daily. If I don't go to the Y, I will walk.

Posted by: James Hey! Some good advice is to divide your plate in "quarters". Two quarters or one half is for veggies. (Careful on the corn and peas--starch). One quarter for potato or pasta or bread--your starches. One quarter for meat and you should do fine. Don't get a plate the size of a trash can lid! Also Light and Tasty magazine is great. It does all the work for you in figuring out portions and is based on the Diabetic's exchange. The recipes are very tasty and even desserts--in moderation--are good. You can get the magazine at WalMart or other stores.

Posted by: melissa Hello and congrats~! I would like to know what your 5-6 meals contain. I too would like to start eating healthy but I need examples. Thanks for sharing with us.

Posted by: Rachel Jessica, What other vegetables are you eating, and what seasonings are you allowed to use? Are there any other meats you're eating besides the chicken and salmon? I would guess that you're exercising along with dieting, am I correct? I recently changed jobs (in October) and I now primarily sit most of the day. I have experienced about a 10-12 pound gain, and it's driving me crazy!! (Not to mention I've crossed the "40" marker). My energy levels are down, and I seem to stay tired...it's the pits!! I agree that spring is a great time to begin a diet, and summer clothing is a great incentive!! Good luck with your continued success, and I hope you can give me some tips that are working for you. Thanks!! Rachel

Posted by: Rachel Oxygen magazine has a lot of good information it it for women wanting to get in shape. It has tons if inspirational pictures, good recepies, and workouts. I am getting married in June, I was really good about working out and eating healthy but with the wedding and honeymoon coming up quick I need to get back in it, I am glad to see there are other people trying to get in shape for summer. If anyone needs any good supplements, health food, ect. try the Healthy Life Market they have locations in Huntington and Charleston and they have awesome stuff

Posted by: Shelly What type of exercise are you doing each day? Congratulations on the 7 pound weight loss - terrific for only 2 weeks!

Posted by: Jessica Ralston Hi Judy! I am eating lots of grilled chicken, wild alaskan salmon, turkey and egg whites. I'm also working plenty of spinach, green beans and a little bit of high-fiber multi-grain bread into my diet. The biggest thing is to watch your portions. You can't eat a massive piece of chicken and think it's ok. I shoot for 3-4 ounces. Basically, a piece of meat the size of a deck of cards, or the palm of your hand. No matter what, stay away from sugar and you have to incorporate good fats into the mix! I depend on a little bit of olive oil to cover that part. I truly have more energy already, I'm not sluggish or tired, and I simply feel better. It's a lot to get used to especially because you have to plan your meals and pack them for work, but I really think it's worth it. Good luck! Honestly, if I can do this, anyone can!

Posted by: Judy could you give us a sample of what you are eating? I mean your 5-6 small meals a day? Like give us what you eat in one given day. I have always heard this, but have no idea what to eat. I have started walking and have no idea what a good eating plan would be. Thanks so much. Enjoy you on TV and keep up the good work!

Posted by: Regular Reader Congratulations!!!!!!!

Posted by: Allie Jessica, I started this same life style change in January. I have done good with it and lost 25 lbs. Over the past month I have strayed from my routine. But with the weather getting better I am back on track and excited about buying smaller clothes for summer.

Posted by: Matt Sounds like ur enjoying this diet and exercise. Keep up the good work!
