Run Ralston Run.

Instead, I'm letting you know that I haven't strayed from my diet or running plan. Yes, folks, what we are experiencing here is a bit of a miracle.

I had to write an update because I'm getting a ton of e-mails in response to my last blog. So here it is and I'm going to give you the straight facts.

I'm losing 2-3 pounds a week. My diet is really "clean".  Actually, it's not a diet, just a new plan to eat the "right" way.

I have not cheated. I repeat. I have not cheated.  I bought a birthday cake the other night for our 11pm producer (D'Arcy) and even though I wanted to plant my face in that sweet white icing.... I resisted.  Last night I went home after work and thought long and hard about an ice cream sandwich. At one point, I thought I could hear the ice cream yelling out for me from the depths of the freezer. I covered my ears and again, I resisted. The willpower is growing stronger by the day.

One strange, and slightly crazy idea that is working... I put a brand new scale on the kitchen floor. So if I get really tempted to cheat, I hop on that bad boy, look at the numbers and remember why those extra calories are not worth it.

I'm running 4 days a week and doing weights 2 days a week. I'm already seeing changes. So, really, that's all the motivation that I need. Plus, I can't stress enough that I  feel so much better.

The best part of this...is that the training for the Rainbow Run for the Covenant House inspired this change in me. Who knew that a good cause could create such an amazing ripple effect?  Running with a group is beyond motivating. Just knowing that others are on the same journey and reaching for the same goal helps to get me through.

Also, thinking about wearing a bathing suit gets me through. Ladies, I KNOW you understand what I'm talking about. I find bathing suit shopping to be the only negative experience one can have at the mall.  But this year, I vow to be rock hard for bathing suit season and ready for whatever.

I know I can do it as long as the voices in the freezer stop (:

Take care.

Jessica Ralston

Posted by: anon Keep up the good work. I personally dont think you need to lose weight, you are the most beautiful woman on any of the news channels

Posted by: Jessica Larry, Ari is 100% correct. If your diet isn't on the right track, the workouts won't make much of a difference. I'm eating 5-6 small meals a day... "good carbs" (like fruits and veggies) and protein like fish and chicken. You have to eat enough because if you eat too little, your body goes into starvation mode and will save your food as fat. This thing is not easy, it's a lot of hard work. You just have to remember that the end result will be worth it.

Posted by: Ari LArry-try changin up your workout, running and lifting are good but you need to mix things up to keep you metabo and muscles confused and wokring. Also you dont need to starve to lose weight, eat a lot of fresh fruit and veggies, and eat all small meals/snacks throughtout the day but make sure they are really healthy choices.

Posted by: larry your successful weight loss with running and a plan to eat the right way fills my mind with questions. I have been running 2-2.5 miles since nov. 2007 and cannot get below 220lbs. i lift 4x week. I know my problem is proper diet. do you have ANY suggestions on what to eat? I have always been a meat and potatoes guy and require filling foods in order to lose that craving feeling 24/7. Does will power mean fighting through hunger? I would love to lose 2-3 pounds a week. I'm burning about 350 calories per run, but I'm taking in allot of calories also. As I am typing this email I am starving....Any specific thoughts would be appreciated.

Posted by: Marge I can't tell you how much reading your blog makes me smile! You're the woman that every girl wants to be, and it's so comforting to see that you too struggle with the same problems as the rest of us. It certainly inspires me to work harder at staying fit... if you can do it with your schedule, we all can! Keep up the hard work, and keep us posted on your progress. Good luck!

Posted by: Penny Go Jess! You're doing great and look fabulous. I just want to know why your dedication isn't rubbing off on me. I just can't do it. Yet. But hopefully I'll get there. Maybe it's just that I can't stop thinking about what happened the last time you and I ran together... A girl gets a little gun shy! ;-)

Posted by: Stew To Binky the "Arm Chair Editor: Regiment means to manage or treat in a rigid, uniform manner; subject to strict discipline. So its not actually incorrect though the usage is may be considered loose. Anywho, I just wanted to say hello to Jessica. Now that I'm finished being a nerd, Hello.

Posted by: Binky Jessica, I realize that you didn't write the WSAZ home page "headline" about your "regiment," but whoever wrote it needs to learn the difference between "regiment" and "regimen." I doubt that you are involved with a "regiment." Maybe one soldier, but not a regiment of them.

Posted by: D'Arcy You really did impress me with that birthday cake, Jess...resisting it with all the force of a four star general. Plus it was SUCH a sweet thing for you to do, I was totally surprised and it helped make for such a great birthday! If anyone's curious about the best part of working at WSAZ....we really do have awesome people there. Who bring you cake. And bring themselves strange, smelly unidentifiable things that are supposed to be filled with protein (sometimes I can't tell what Jessica's meals now actually consist of...we're all learning from this experience.)Okay, whatever you're eating, I think you're wonderful and Todd and I will totally be there to cheer you on for the Rainbow Run.

Posted by: Tina I'm glad that you feel better since you're eating right. But for those who are dieting for different reasons, remember the words in Proverbs...Favor is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised.

Posted by: Rhonda Wow. You are inspiring me Jessica. I think I'll get back on the wagon tomorrow with my diet and go walking too.

Posted by: Robyn You have inspired me to get back on track. I did really well this year until I had a month long bout of the flu, and now I must get myself moving again. Today is a new day, and I am ready for it. Thank you.

Posted by: JOHN Keep up the good work! It really is all about will power, I just quit smoking after 20 years on those cancer sticks. It has not been easy, but it is well worth it. Once I get past this I will take on my fat belly. Believe in yourself and all is possible.

Posted by: Citizen Goodluck with your diet plan...exercise is always good!
