Sick As A Dog.

I called off of work Monday because I was sick. I started feeling it on Sunday night. Nauseas. Lethargic. I'll spare you the gory details.

But here's where it gets a bit weird. Sweet little Ginger was sick too. Or at least, she was acting like it. She woke up Monday and I took her outside. Then, as usual, she ran to the kitchen to get some water. She couldn't keep it down and for the rest of the day, she was in a doggie coma. She would not eat or drink and she would not leave my side for anything. So, the whole time I was miserable on the couch, she was miserable on the couch. Her stomach was making really loud and really strange gurgling sounds all night as well.

When I woke up this morning and started to feel better, so did she. She ran outside for a while, came in and had breakfast and was playful again. She was back to being my peppy little pup.

Is it possible that she caught something from me, or did I catch something from her? Or maybe, we're both just nuts? I will say that she's been running with me and maybe this was a ploy to get out of working out (:  Needless to say, it worked for both of us!

P.S. In the midst of feeling horrible, I totally broke my diet. In my mind, chocolate was the only way to feel better. So I indulged and then I over-indulged (:

Today, I only feel extreme guilt (:  This means, an extra mile added to the run time and I won't be looking at the scale to see how much damage was done!

Posted by: ~~N~~S~~~ Well Jessica I know what it feels like to be sick and it's not fun at all hopoe you feel better!!!

Posted by: Jessica Gregg! Thank you SO much for your comment. As soon as I read it... a light bulb went off in my head. We've had several problems with gas leaks and for some reason, I never associated getting sick with it. I am convinced that this is the problem. I did a little research and it all adds up. Thanks again. I feel so dumb that I didn't make the connection before. P.S. Ginger thanks you too!

Posted by: Gregg Jess, if you have gas appliances you may want to have them checked for a leak. Animals and humans both can become sick when exposed to methane (the main component in natural gas) or carbon monoxide. We have 3 cats, two of whom rule the basement. Both of them started acting sick as did I after spending alot of time downstairs. It was almost a week later that we finally smelled the gas leak - it took that long to pool up enough to begin to smell it, but the effects started long before the odor registered in the nose. Then too, I like the honesty about wanting a day off...didn't work for me though!

Posted by: Jessica Thanks Debbie! I didn't think we could carry the same viruses as dogs, but I just couldn't figure it out. I actually don't feed her anything but dog food. The only time she gets "people" food is if she finds it on the floor (: So, that might just be what happened. You wouldn't believe how loud her stomach was growling! She also might have gotten into something bad when she was outside playing.

Posted by: Jeff Animals are very attuned to their owners. It's possible that Ginger was reacting to your being sick. Sort of like when a husband has labor pains right along with the wife. Animals are smarter than we give them credit for.

Posted by: Debbie Jess very rarely do we share viruses with dogs, but what is possible is that you had something that was contaminated and gave her a little taste. When she gives you the LOOK while you're eating, are you like most of us and break her off a little piece?
