Borek Blowing Town

This can be such a fun job...working in television news.  However, we have one big downside.  We keep losing our friends.

So much of this business revolves around finding new challenges and bigger paycheck by moving from a smaller city to a bigger city.  Today our meteorologist Todd Borek is making that jump.  Todd is leaving us for a job in Lexington, Kentucky.  Some viewers will now be able to catch him on the air at WKYT.  I know that station is on the cable system for lots of our Eastern Kentucky viewers.  You'll see him do his typical forecast.

I'll miss him though for the things you never saw.  The behind-the-scenes Borek is more fun than you could imagine.  Todd and I hit it off instantly when he was hired.  He's a Michigan State graduate and loves his Spartans.  So we would spend endless hours watching Big Ten sports together...with me trying to convice him that my Indiana Hoosiers were better.  Todd also used to be a standup comic in his career.  His humor is also why I'm going to miss him.  I'll never forget his on air reports when he would tell us about the "Weekend Ahead".  It was always a standup comic routine...and oh by the way...you might learn a little bit about the upcoming weekend fun events.

Todd's a great guy.  I hope he has fun in Lexington.  Fortunately it's not such a long drive to see my friend.  Good luck, Todd.

I congratulate you and hope that you appreciate Chris as we have for so long. From your comments it sounds like you all feel about Todd just like we feel about Chris.I guess that in a way we are both winners. Posted by: Kim Todd make sure WSAZ shows us a wedding pic!!:D Best wishes to you on the move and your upcoming marriage.

Posted by: Todd Borek Thank you all for the good wishes. That really means a lot to D'Arcy and me (the wedding is just a couple of weeks away). We are sad to be leaving everyone here but we're also excited about our future. I normally don't respond on blogs (unless I'm trying to annoy Jessica Ralston) but I did want to thank everyone for the kind comments and thank the friends I will miss at WSAZ. I must go now, the pirate ship awaits!

Posted by: Robyn Well, now I am depressed. He has been a favorite, but at least I can still watch on WKYT.

Posted by: Terry OH NO !!!! I can't believe it, Todd left. I will sure miss him he was alot of fun to watch. Best of luck to him. Yeah WSAZ sure has lost some good ones the last few years

Posted by: sambo I enjoyed his "Weekend Ahead" when he dressed as a pirate and had Jessica with him. That was good. Will be missed by all. Godspeed.

Posted by: Linda I will miss Todd Borek. He gave the weather forecast a little something extra. It seemed to come so natural to him. I always wished he had done more of the, "Weekend Ahead" spots. He is really talented and will do well in whatever field he chooses. Good luck, Todd Borek. May God's richest blessings be with you wherever you go.

Posted by: Anonymous There does seem to be a high turnover in meterologists, but it's not just in the WV area. I'm familiar with meterologists in both the Cincinnati and Lexington markets and they come and go like crazy there too. In fact, I can remember watching Marina Jurica when she was in Cincinnati. But at least I get WKYT on my cable and will still get to see Todd! :)

Posted by: levi we'll miss you todd, your forecasts are always fun to watch who ever the next meteorologist at WSAZ has some big shoes to fill good luck in lex. their lucky to have ya todd

Posted by: Mary makes me wonder what is going on in the weather dept there at ole wsaz? is someone running all of them off or it is just better pay and opportunities in bigger cities? just makes you go hmmmmmm good luck Todd!!!!!! we'll miss you!

Posted by: Dan Why has Tony C. stuck around so long? I hear he's hard to work with anyway.

Posted by: Sharon WSAZ gives the meteorologist a great start, then someone comes along and takes them away. Good luck Todd, by the way are you still getting married. All the best in the future. We'll all miss you!!!!!

Posted by: Peggy WKYT Lexington! Wow, I was raised in Lexington, and watched that station all of my childhood. Of couse I'm about to turn 50 this year, so back then the weatherman pointed with a stick at a paper map on the wall! Todd is too young to remember that! Good luck, and we certainly will miss you!

Posted by: Patty Why can't WSAZ keep their weather people? I still am sad over the loss of Adam Joseph! As soon as they get settled in good, they leave. Is it because of the pay? Just wondering!!!!

Posted by: Kevin- Well Mr. Todd.... As we used to say in the Navy.... """Don't Let The Door Hit Ya In Da Keester On Yer Way Out..!!""" (((Laughing...)) But Seriously.... I wish the best for you (((Even If Ya Went Ta Michigan...))) But another Naval Saying.... (((As Well As It Could Be Weather Related))) May You Have.... 'Fair Winds.... And Following Seas'... All the days of your life!' God's Blessings & Good Luck Todd.

Posted by: Judy Tony Cavalier...you better not go anywhere!

Posted by: Jeannie Oh no! Not Todd, too. I am just now getting over Glenn Wiley's departure.

Posted by: Sherri WSAZ must have trouble keeping their weather staff, because just as soon as you get to like someone and get used to seeing them on TV, they leave for better. I wish the best for Todd Borek, he was really good, and will be missed by a lot of people. I wish we could keep our weather forecasters longer, seems like we lose them too often. Congradulations to WKYT, they are getting on of the best we've had. Good Luck Todd, we'll miss you.

Posted by: April I, along with a lot of other people I know, would like to see Josh Fitzpatrick take over Todd's spot. Is this what's going to happen? Thanks!

Posted by: Dewaine Todd did a great job. Let's hope we don't lose anynore outstanding cast.

Posted by: Kim Oh no!! Todd was my favorite meteorologist.:( I've always wondered why there's such a big turnover rate with the weather people at WSAZ. Tony you'd better stay put!!!

Posted by: Kathy Good luck to you Todd. I'll miss you too! you were one of my favorites. R U still getting married to D'Arcy? If so best wishes for a wondeful future ahead!! I'll tune in and try to find you on the "other channel"

Posted by: Linda The best of luck to you, Todd. We'll miss you.

Posted by: Debbie I will miss Todd also. I always watch wsaz and myz. I wish him all the best.

Posted by: Sherry I will also miss Todd. He was so genuine and down-to earth. He never tried to impress or be fake. He always just did his job and made us laugh at the same time. I will have to tell my friends in Lexington that their gain is our loss. Todd you were one of the best!!!!

Posted by: Lisa I hate to see Todd Borek leave also. I really liked him. It seems like WSAZ always loses their weather people.
