LALALALALA ICAN'THEARYOU LALALALALALA

I am so excited I can barely sit still to type.

It's SEX AND THE CITY THE MOVIE weekend! (If you didn't watch the series this will be a pretty boring blog.)

You might have noticed-- the gals have been all over the morning news programs and talk shows. Much to my dismay. Every time I see them, I turn the channel. I don't want to hear a peep about the movie -- not one little tidbit. I just want to go and immerse myself in the lives of Carrie and Samantha and Miranda and Charlotte. I don't want to have knowledge of a single bit of information about what happens until I'm sitting there, eating Raisinettes and popcorn and drinking it all in.

I didn't even start watching Sex and the City until the whole series had ended. I caught an episode on TBS while I was on maternity leave after Ava was born and thought it was great. I happened to mention it to my friend Leigh Anne, and she immediately ordered me to stop watching the sanitized version and brought me over all her DVDs of the series. It became my one mindless, guilty pleasure... when Claire was at preschool, I would watch. When the girls were asleep, I would watch. I tried to finish all 6 seasons before I returned to work, but I didn't quite make it. So I would come home at midnight and watch an episode. Or two. It was glorious!

So now... the movie. A certain girlfriend at work, let's say she's kind of our resident Carrie, and I have been talking about this and looking forward to it for weeks. Well I guess there's no sense in protecting her identity. It's Jessica Ralston. I swear if you've talked to her, you'll notice her sense of humor is very much like Carrie's. She's HILARIOUS. Anyway, unlike me, Jessica has spent far too much time Googling information. And what she found was not good. That's all I know-- because I refuse to listen to the details. I do this LALALALALAICAN'THEARYOUSTOPTALKINGPLEASELALALALALALA with my fingers in my ears whenever she starts talking about the movie.

When I say "not good", I don't mean the movie's getting bad reviews. My efforts to isolate myself from any and all information have failed in that I at least know the movie's not going over well with the critics. I don't really care about that. What Jessica and I are obsessing over is whether they (the movie writers) messed everything up. We are quite concerned. If Carrie doesn't marry Big and live happily ever after I will be livid. If Miranda and Steve and Brady aren't happy as little bugs in a log I will be furious. If Samantha and Smith aren't still totally in love I will spit out my Raisinettes. And if something happens to Charlotte and Harry... well... I can't even think about it.

So now that I think about it, the version of the movie I want to see would be pretty boring. Okay I guess a few bad things have to happen along the way but in the end they better not mess everything up!

Jessica, and I hope Leigh Anne, and hopefully a few more of us girlfriends will be going to see the movie this weekend. Because Jessica's working tonight and running in her big 5K tomorrow, and my daughter Claire's dance recital is tomorrow night, we can't go until Sunday afternoon... but I won't swear we won't strap on our highest heels and go enjoy some indulgent girl time!

Posted by: Corey Penny, I did the same thing as you! I refused to watch any promotions about the film and tivoed the Oprah with the girls to save until after I saw the movie. It did not disappoint! I'm so glad that they decided to do a movie, and who knows - maybe a sequel? I know I would see it! I hope you and Jessica also enjoyed it!

Posted by: Ari I dont watch the show. and yes Kim it's HILarious watching women talk about their pathetic love lives and which of their 20 boyfriends they slept with last night. To each his own I guess

Posted by: Kim The people writing negative comments about this should lighten up. It's just a TV show and if adults want to watch and enjoy it, then they should. If you think it sends a bad message, then don't watch. Plain and simple. I think the show is hilarious. It always makes me laugh.

Posted by: Penny Whoa whoa whoa! I don't think anyone is suggesting the gals on the show/movie are role models. It's entertainment-- fiction -- plain and simple. I would never want that kind of life, and a tv show won't make me think otherwise. Now, should easily-influenced children be watching it? Absolutely not!

Posted by: Ari I found my prince and didnt have to turn trashy to do it. Kissing frogs is a lot different then sleeping with a different guy evey weekend. It just sends the wrong message, and with STDS, unwed parents, and divorce running rampant we just need more morals and values as a society. Maybe I am old fashion ( and by the way I an under 30, not some 80 yr old lady) I like to have fun and be sexy when I am with my fiance but some people just take things to far.

Posted by: Debbie Ari sometimes you kiss a lot of frogs before you find your prince.

Posted by: Michelle Saw the movie..loved it! There should not be a sequel...all questions have been answered. And, by the way, even though the dress SJP wore to the NYC premiere of the movie was worn earlier in May by someone else...who cares? SJP rocked the dress - the other gal couldn't hold a candle to SJP! I love SATC!

Posted by: Ari I never said they werent sexual being, but sleeping with anyone you can get your hands on and thinking that's ok is not just ebing a sexual being thats being a trashy. Women can be sexual and still be classy

Posted by: Debbie I also like the series, but did not watch the original because of my kids, it's definitely an adult theme. I've been a fan of Chris Noth "Big" since he was on the original Law and order series. Don't care as much for him on Criminal Intent. I'll admit Samantha might be a bit excessive but we all know someone like her. Like it or not women are sexual beings, just like men are. I know you guys probably won't post this now that I said that.

Posted by: Ari Sue, I agree I am no feminist or anything and I think people wanting to appear in magazines is their own decision but the thing with Sex and The City is that these girls think it's ok to do the things that they do and it's not. Other people watch it and after watching this stuff for to long people get the idea that the things they are doing on tv are ok to do

Posted by: Sue I could never get into the series. To me it is just another series about successful women who feel the need to use their bodies to be validated. It is along the same lines of female athletes who "need" to appear in Maxim or the like to be truly accepted. Read Female Chauvinist Pigs by Ariel Levy. It is an eye opener.

Posted by: Penny Jessica: THERE WILL BE NO DISAPPOINTMENTS! I FORBID IT! :-) Seriously, as we've talked about, I am almost afraid to see the movie because if they ruin it I simply don't know what I will do. Hey, do you think Carrie is Googling all the stuff people are writign about the movie? Maybe she'll read this. Hi Carrie! We love you!!

Posted by: Jessica Ralston Penny, I have already picked out what shoes I'm wearing for the "BIG" movie Sunday. I'm also planning on multiple Cosmopolitans to deal with any "dissapointments" this movie may bring. Also, I am swearing off the "Googling" until we've seen what really happens. This is the kind of female bonding the guys will never understand (:
