I am one happy and eager Momma today... Claire has spent the WHOLE WEEK with her grandmother (aka Meemaw) over spring break and today she's finally coming home! Home! Home! I was wondering if she would ever come home-- as of the other day she was asking if she could stay until SUNDAY! (No!) Thankfully, today she said she was glad she was coming home. I must say, I truly understand why it must be a lot of fun, from her perspective as the oldest of three, getting to be the only kid in the house, the center of attention, for a few (SIX!!) days. Plus her three cousins live nearby so they all had a big time together. And admittedly it has been rather nice, and much easier, and exponentially quieter, managing two instead of three. But six days?! This is the child who, only last fall, would not spend the night with these same cousins while Matt and I stayed at his mom's a mile away because she missed her mommy! Oh how things change in just a few short months. I was so sad dropping her off last Sunday... and she didn't have a moment's hesitation. The week before she left, she kept telling everyone she was going, wanted to start packing on Tuesday. How could she leave her mother?! Until this week the longest I've ever been away from her in one stretch is two days... two days! And I can count those occasions on one hand. With a couple fingers left over. I mean, I passed on a trip to Hawaii when I was pregnant with Bennett because I didn't want to leave the girls for that long!! And it was only going to be 4 days. And this is the thanks I get?! Harumph. I know, I know... this is what I'm raising her to do... go out and fly fly fly. But she's only 7! Don't remind me... this is the first of a million times she's going to gleefully go. But I'll always be waiting, a million times... to gleefully welcome her home. |

Are you Pregnant again,
Posted by: Kygal I spent a week or so with various relatives and a week at church camp each summer. My mother never said one way or the other how she felt about it. She was 43 when she had me and I was the third child. Frankly, I think she probably missed me but was happy to have a little down time!!! It is so nice that your daughter spent time with Meemaw and the cousins. Nowdays,so many children do not spend time with family and I think that is so sad. I would not trade those times for anything. Thanks for sharing. Posted by: Penny Ha! You are so right, Ashley. Don't I know it! Heaven help me. :-) Posted by: ashley What a heart-warming story, children grow up so fast. The next thing you know, she'll be in high school with her driver's license and hanging out with all sorts of friends speeding down I-64!! <:)> Posted by: Linda I recall the first time that our daughter spent the night (actually nights)away from us (with her grandparents). She was two years old at the time. When we arrived to pick her up, she hid because she wanted to stay longer! I was devastated because I had missed her so badly. Now, she is married and living in NC with their two children. Those children will be staying with my husband and me while our daughter and her husband are away celebrating their 15th wedding anniversary during spring break. It has come full circle! Posted by: Sue Oh Penny what a sweet story. I remember when my only daughter spent the night away from home the first time. She was 7. Now she will be turning 18 this week and what I wouldn't give to have her back at that age. Cherish the years as they do fly by so quickly! Also, I believe there is a congrats due you and your family!!!! Take Care:) |
