I think I've mentioned this before... when I was a little girl, I always pictured myself having two children: a boy first, then a girl.

But when I was pregnant for the first time I knew I was having a girl.

When I first held her, I knew I wanted three. Three babies!

We joyfully welcomed daughter #2 three years later. Then, with the reality of two busy children and two busy careers, having number three just wasn't something we thought much about. Truth be told, when #3 was on his way, I was completely freaked out for the first several months. How could I possibly do it all???

Of course, as my favorite Bible verse says but try as I might, I still stubbornly refuse to let go and just believe, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths." -Proverbs 3, 5-6

That boy, like his sisters, has brought us joy beyond compare. So much so that, at one point or another, neither Matt nor I could rule out just one more.

But seriously -- four? Four children? Never in my life, until like I said, Bennett was born, did I ever imagine having FOUR children!

Well guess what.

Fore! FOUR!!

We are grateful, more than a little amused, and, okay, when I think about figuring out homework, science projects, practices, the teen years, paying for college, and on and on and on, with FOUR children... just a little freaked out. :-)

I didn't even realize you were pregs. again. I'm very happy for you. Don't let people get to you, when they make comments, don't you know what causes that yet. I have eight children ages 36 to 18. A set of twins in there too. When I had them I had 5 under 7. Now I have 5 married and 19 grandchildren. Don't blink because they will be grown. I would't change any of the years with my babies. I was so blessed. I miss the years of being pregnant and breastfeeding. My career was raising my babies. Cherish every moment. Before you know it your youngest will be graduating from high school.lol Congraduations to you and Matt.

Penny, I want to first say Congratulations!! I am 28 and have watched WSAZ since I was a little one. I watched the news tonight and noticed you are pregnant. Wow #4, how wonderful. I have 4 kids. 1 of my own - age 4, 2 stepkids that live with us - ages 13 and 10 and 1 step child that lives with his grandparents - age 15. We have had my 2 stepkids for the past year. They were taken from their mother. Sometimes I want more of my own, however I know that I don't have the money to take care of so many. I feel sometimes like I lose my patience as it is. You are very blessed to have this opportunity in life. I can tell you are a great mother. I wish all moms could be that great. I know there are struggles in parenting. My husband and I have found ours. I didn't realize how busy life could be until now. Just now finding out you are pregnant goes to show you, with 4 kids I can't watch the news as much. I just want to say, GOOD LUCK and GOD BLESS!

#4 was a surprise to us, but we love her just the same...LOL. Congratulations! We have a 15, 11, 9, and 5 year old. Honestly...if it weren't for trying to pay for college and all the rest...I would have another. We were outnumbered at three anyway! Best wishes to your family!

Congratulations! I have 3 and we are very busy and I don't know how I do it sometimes...but it does all work out. I can do anything through Christ who strengthens me. Might need to start Grocery Gaming to stock up on baby supplies!

Hi, Penny, Congrats. Everything will work out fine. We had 6 childen, they all went to Marshall because somehow it all worked out just right for everyone. Trust God and it will work itself out. By the way, the holidays are more fun the more kids and grandchildren there are to enjoy them with.

to penny and matt: congrats! to the comment from the infertile one: i am sorry but don't put penny down just because she is pregnant again. it's not her fault. i had a sister in law who had trouble conceiving and she had me in tears when she found out i was pregnant. it was unfair to me. maybe you should try adoption or something else. god has a purpose for us all and maybe has other plans for your life.

Trust me when I say I understand the havoc infertility can wreck on a person and a marriage. However, it saddens me to think that anyone would fear (or be chastised for) their sincere and real emotions of joy and fear when bringing a new life onto this planet. While Penny has been blessed in four amazing ways that I may or may not ever fully experience. I have experienced blessings that are unique to me. Penny would not ask me to tone down my own excitement over good things in my life for her benefit. And while some people have a hard time empathizing with others hardships, PENNY IS NOT ONE OF THEM. Penny-may you continue to be a blessing to all those who come in contact with you (WSAZ viewers and 4 very lucky children.) Infertile-I feel your very real pain, and from the bottom of my heart I mourn with you. Then I pray that your life may be filled with blessings beyond your wildest dreams. And shared joys bigger and brighter than anything you have ever imagined.

Congrats! We can tell from your blogs you're a great mom and those 4 kids are blessed to have you as their mom. I have two kids but would not minds having more. There is nothing like them.

Congratulations. Now I wish someone would blog about, or do a story about, or even just aknowledge that some of us don't get to be mothers. There are those of us who can't have children and it would be nice for someone to take notice of us every now and then. You are scared of having four kids? What if you were never able to have any kids? What would be worse, having to raise four kids or never getting to be a mother, never hearing "I love you, mom" and having to listen to others complain about the "joys" of parenthood?

Penny, I am so happy for you and your family. You seem to be such a wonderful mother. I know you will handle this well. If you have trouble, talk to Melanie!!! Now someone needs to talk to Rob about having another one!!! Love your blogs. Tahnks.

Congratulations Penny, I would have loved to have 4 children, but after 2 high risk pregnancies decided that 2 healthy babies are exactly the right number for me. You'll do fine everyone always says it's harder going from 1 -2, and after that it's easy. Enjoy your family because being the oldest of 4, I gotta say I love having a sister and brothers. I couldn't imagine a life without them.
