Friday, the WV Republican Party released the latest information in the GOP's new nomination process for a presidential candidate. You had to have enough delegates (18) on your side to continue in the process. That left out Alan Keyes and Gene Zarwell. I think the interesting part of this process is that we're getting our first look at how the state Republicans are pledging their loyalty. It's pretty much spread around among the major candidates. I did a quick read through the delegate lists. Former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani has three WV Senators in his corner. Donna Boley (Pleasants), Karen Facemyer (Jackson) and Vic Sprouse (Kanawha) have all signed up to help Giuliani. Rick Modesitt, Wood County Commissioner, is also on board. Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, fresh off his win in Iowa, has the support of former Kanawha County Senator Steve Harrison and Rick Snuffer, a Republican who ran and lost to Nick Rahall for Congress. Fred Thompson, a former United States Senator from Tennessee, has the support of WV House of Delegates minority leader Tim Armstead, former US Congressman Mick Staton, Kanawha County delegate Ron Walters and former state senator Russ Weeks. Weeks recently wrote a book to talk about his time in the West Virginia legislature. Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney has the support of WV State School Board Member Priscilla Haden and former congressional candidate Chris Wakim. Arizona Senator John McCain has Daryl Cowles, a member of the House of Delegates out of the Eastern Panhandle, on his team. Check the list out for yourself at www.wvgopconvention.com. |

Why do you hate Ron Paul? Not even mentioning his name! You know he took 2nd in Nevada and Louisiana and still no mention, huh? That's strange you would do that.
Posted by: Rick Bott Now that Fred Thompson has dropped out of the race for president, what happens to his campaign funds? Is there a chance that it could be transfered to the GOP? Posted by: Scott Earthmother: I only wrote about elected (or formerly elected) Republicans who signed up as delegates. I didn't recognize any of Paul's delegates as elected officials or former candidates off the top of my head. Posted by: Earthmother Oh come on now, where are the RON PAUL supporters? Never HEARD of him??? Google. |
