They certainly don't have flashy names like Batman, Wonder Woman or the Flash. These folks have common earthbound names like Pat, Belinda and Nick.
(Okay, I have to get over my obsession with cheesy references to superheroes when discussing the superdelegate situation.)
Wait for it.
Ok, I'm over it now.
Here's what I found out. The local superdelegates met Thursday. These are the folks who have a very important vote to pick our next Democratic presidential nominee.
Nick Casey, West Virginia's Democrat Party Chairman and a superdelegate, told me the meeting involved the local delegates -- Pat Maroney, Marie Prezioso, Belinda Biofore and Governor Joe Manchin plus Casey. Casey says it was a cordial meeting just to discuss the situation and what is going to take place here over the next several months.
Casey will only talk about his vote. He says he's going to stay uncommitted as long as possible.
"I'm kind of hoping it all gets worked out before I have to make a decision," Nick Casey told me. That means he won't make a public statement to try to influence WV Democrats before the primary in May.
Casey says the group didn't make any decisions or agree to go with any one delegate, but they kind of generally agreed that they wanted to see how Democrats will vote May 13th. Prezioso has already publicly stated her support for the Hillary Clinton campaign.
Casey also says he has heard from both camps that they will be in West Virginia before the primary. He says the candidates need to get past Ohio and Texas first though.
Speaking of Ohio, you might have read on the political headlines that Hillary and Bill Clinton may be in Portsmouth at Shawnee State University next week. The trip is very tentative, but we'll keep you posted on any details we get. Ohio Governor Ted Strickland plans to stump for Clinton heavily in Southern Ohio this weekend. Polls show Clinton up by 20 some points over Barack Obama in Ohio at this point.
