Kentuckians have to wait for Pennsylvania and even West Virginia to get a crack at the Democratic presidential candidates, but that doesn't mean they have to wait patiently.
This week, Pike County Judge/Executive Wayne T. Rutherford sent what a press release calls a "formal invitation" to presidential candidate Hillary Clinton to visit. Rutherford wants her to speak at the KY/WV Coalfields Rally which should take place at the East Kentucky Expo Center when dates are finalized.
The press release includes the following quotes:
"The southern coalfields are democratic,”
Rutherford said. “With primaries in both Kentucky and West Virginia coming up, it seems appropriate to invite Senator Clinton to speak here since we are 20 minutes from the
West Virginia line.”
“Having just been informed that we may have the opportunity to have Hillary Clinton visit our county, I’ll say that I’m delighted to think we could get someone of that stature to come to
Pike
County ,” said Clayton Little, Chairman of the Pike County Democratic Party.
The release says nothing about inviting Democratic frontrunner Barack Obama.
Clinton's camp told the Dems they'll get back with them in a couple weeks.
