WV & KY: A Graceful Exit for Hillary?

Could West Virginia and Kentucky be the swan song for Hillary Clinton?  That's what Tim Russert insinuated on the Today Show Wednesday morning.

NBC's political guru told Matt Lauer that Clinton will win West Virginia next Tuesday.  Polls already show she has a commanding lead over Barack Obama.  So, that's no place to end her campaign.

On Tuesday, May 20th, Clinton is expected to win Kentucky and Obama is expected to win Oregon.

Russert said that might be a good time for the Democrats to come together and say they'll work together to get Obama elected in the fall.

Posted by: Cheryl Adkins If you people want 4 more years of George or to send your great grandkids off to Iraq to fight Goeorge's war vote for McCain. but to not vote for Obama because you fear what you kon't know and believe what fools tell you is plain ignorance. But WV did help elect George in 2004 so what does that say about them

Posted by: Trina Tim Russert, Keith Olberman, are elete sexist idioits and I will never watch MSNBC again. Such biased reporting that it's disgusting the way they put down women and have treated Senator Clinton. they have let their personal hate toward the Clintons color their reporting and it's so unprofessional.

Posted by: Renee Senator Clinton should NOT pull out. She is the only hope we have. She has Solutions for the problems facing our Nation. Obama does not have the experience to do the job, HILLARY does. Count FL and MI and she's ahead in the popular vote. BO cannot win the swing states, and she can. Without her, the Republicans will take the White House again. None of us will vote for BO!!! He cannot do the job and it doesn't have a thing to do with being a racist. The sexism is rampant. Look how Hillary has been treated. Signs held up sayng "Iron my shirts" what would have happened if someone had held up a sign to Obama that said "shine my shoes"...,..I think we all know the answer to that, but it was ok to show sexism to Hillary. The media has pushed him ahead.

Posted by: Allen Check out Ron Paul on YouTube.

Posted by: Kathy Everyone should learn to spell H I L L A R Y! It will come in very handy in the fall should have to have a write in campaign to make sure our voices are heard once and for all. I for one can not in all good concience vote for Obama or McCain.

Posted by: WILLIAM HILLARY WOULD MAKE A GOOD THIRD PARTY RUN.

Posted by: Jennifer Obama has moved on. He was in MO the day our election was held to give a speech in a county that is highly republican. Then he went to the county above Detroit MI who is also known as a highly republican county that has a lot of automakers. After that he is off to an area of Florida where 40% of the voters are swing voters. So he is moving on. He realizes that if he is going to be the nominee he will have to get started now because McCain is getting a free ride with the Democratic primaries being so close.

Posted by: PeggySue Maybe Obama should start considering the November race? He is the one who "can't win." He should take a hard look at what is best for this country and concede the race to the best candiate for November. His stubborn short-sightedness may cost the Democrats the 2008 Presidential election. It's time to stop waiting for Clinton to step down and start looking to the Obama camp to do the right thing.

Posted by: Annette Hillary knows her time is limited in this race. She should continue to June 3rd. But after that, she should exit the race peacefully with class. After all she was the first lady and a respectful example to uphold for future first ladies. The same would be expected of Obama if he was behind. This race is not about her and Bill the 1990s are over. It's okay to dream, but wake up too.

Posted by: SandyE Please read Hillary's Health Care Proposal on hillary.clinton.com. Her proposal makes it MANDATORY that every person gets and keeps insurance (either their existing coverage or access the same menu of quality private insurance options that their Members of Congress receive). Presently, the Members of Congress are required to pay 25% of their total health benefit cost. Based on the posted chart for health benefits, the cost for a family plan in the State of WV will run anywhere from $220 a month. If you are uninsured and could afford $220 per month, you would get insurance. Giving "tax credits" to pay for insurance won't help a person afford the insurance until he/she files an income tax return. Don't forget her plan says "required" which means that if you can't afford, your wages will be attached to pay anyway!! That's Hillary Clinton's Affordable Health Care Plan!! Read for yourself.

Posted by: john learn how to spell before you call us names, lol

Posted by: Joe Those of you that are sold on clinton are nothing but a bunch of moronic ediots. The race has been over since Super Tuesday, but she continues to drag you and I to the mud. What a sore looser!!!! Barak holds the future of our country. If you bigotry gets in the way, then that's why the pundets say what they say about our state. Racism and Bigotry will not stop this movement!!!! NOT THIS TIME!!!!!!!

Posted by: Katie4Honesty Obama's tax plan CUT's taxes for people making 75k or less and couples making 150k or less. There is a tax increase for those making OVER $250,000 dollars a year. This is listed on his website under economy.

Posted by: Stacy Alissa, so glad you're a rich, overpaid republican. But us hardworking people don't get money handed over to us. We actually have to work for our money. So that is reason that the working class of people need to vote Democratic, not repub. Go Clinton!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: Kathy Why should she be planning a graceful exit????? Did I miss something? Does Obama have 2025 delegates???? I think not!! Run Hillary run. I am sick of the media's attempt to run this election. Let the people from all 50 states decide.

Posted by: PuppyDogMom It is not up to Tim Russert to decide when this primary season is over. Tim obviously isn't analyzing the numbers. It's the electoral college votes that are the only ones that count. And Obama just can't get them. Hillary can.

Posted by: mcgowan.swan just a clarification on an earlier comment. it was teddy kennedy, not JFK, that went to the convention behind 756 delegates. the same point is supported, but i dont know what i was thinking about to have confused those two. they are so far apart in every respect except blood. sorry for the confusion.

Posted by: mcgowan.swan john f kennedy went to the convention behind by 756 delegates. hillary needs to go to the convention as well. if the dnc wanted a candidate by june, then they should have scheduled a shorter primary period and a june convention. i am fed up with the push to coronate obama. if he is made the nominee i will vote for mccain. i do vote on the issues and hillary has the best solutions, but voting for mccain if she is not there is the best way to be sure that my country is not turned over to an inexperienced man with innumerable questionable links to Daley politics, the weathermen, hamas, odinga, Wright, and Jones, and Auchi. The list goes on. MLK said he dreamed of the judging of a man by his character, not his skin color. i am doing that. obama could be white and i would not vote for him, and if hillary were AA i would be waiting with baited breath, just as i am now, to be able to vote for her. she is the best candidate, period.

Posted by: Dana I hope so. No, actually I do think that all of the states/territories should get to vote. After it's said and done in early June, I hope the SDs come out strong for Obama and then Clinton can say adios. He'll have the 2025 delegates (yes, Clinton supporters... 2025 - that is the rules - not 2209!!) and continue to fight McCain. She can then choose to support our niminee, or not, as long as she doesn't push it. If she does, I don't think she'll be seeing too many open arms when she returns to the Senate.

Posted by: Wendy Clinton will go all the way to the convention! She is a fighter! Obama will make another fatal mistake!

Posted by: Allen Hoban Politics 101: CA, TX, NY, FL, PA, OH, MI, MA, IN, TN.... Dems will not win without these states. And they will not win these states without Clinton. Howard Dean seems to believe that the dems can win with small red states and Illinois. And he vastly underestimates the importance of Florida in the General Election. And he vastly overestimates his influence: we will NOT lose our resolve, we will not all 'come together' in November, we will NOT vote for Obama. Dean forgets another Politics 101 tenet: the 'youth vote' is illusory. And he fails in basic arithmetic: twelve per cent does not a majority make. Rove and pals are salivating over the prospect of throwing Obama under the bus: if Obama is the candidate, 1972 will look like a pretty good year for the dems.

Posted by: Suzan Tim Russert? YOu can't be serious, Scott. Russert is Obama's main man at NBC. Well, Russert and Matthews and Olbermann and others too numerous too mention. NBC is Obama Hq on air. The primary's going all the way to the convention and there's no reason it shouldn't. Hillary's still ahead in the polls, especially when the issue's the economy. She's by far the most trusted there and the economy by far the biggest concern on the minds of this country voters. No one should make the mistake of underestimating her. They have before, and look where it got them!

Posted by: Anya Give the people in the remaining states a chance to vote. Seat FL and MI according to how the people voted. (Rules were broken in other states as well, but none were penalized so completely.) I can't believe that so-called progressives want to participate in DISENFRANCHISING people. I also can't believe that so-called progressives won't vote for the one candidate with a plan for universal health care.

Posted by: endodoc79 This is a very close contest for the Democratic nomination. We should allow the primary contests to play out with little more than 3 weeks to go. Big wins in the remaining primary battlegrounds of WV, KY and PR by Senator Clinton will show her strength to superdelegates. Since they can change their minds at any time and vote their conscience at the convention in Denver, she has a great chance at the nomination. Why should anyone bow out at this point?

Posted by: Conchita Elizabeth: Put a sock in your racist accusations.I'm voting for McCain if Clinton isn't the nominee because, for crying out loud, unlike Obama, he knows the US does not have 57 states!

Posted by: Susan So you want to disenfranchise more voters? We need to have all the states be heard, including FL and MI and THEN see where things stand. There is a reason Obama wants to end the primary contest now.

Posted by: mag Tim Russert, PUHLEAAASE. NBC is the National Barack Channel. The race is when a candidate reaches 2209 so don't fall for OBAMA's dirty tactic claiming he is the Victor. VOTE. http://www.thecityedition.com/Pages/Archive/Winter08/OctoberSurprise.html What is Obama's October surprise.

Posted by: Sandy Let the democractic process continue. EVERY voter deserves a chance to be heard and EVERY candidate a chance to run the best race he/she can. Don't let anyone take away your right to vote for the candidate of your choice, least of all the pundits, pollsters and op-ed authors. They write and opine what THEY believe, not necessarily what is right or true. Let your voices be heard and don't let anyone mail in your vote or otherwise manipulate your vote. Take ownership and do it yourself! IMHO, and after much research and soul searching, Hillary Clinton is the best candidate to lead this country out of the morass in which it is mired. Her strength, courage, fortitude and sheer guts amaze me and I am proud of this strong woman.

Posted by: Mike R The Obama camp has paid bloggers coming over here to call WV racists to try to guilt you into voting for him (it's both a strategy and a talking point). His campaign tactics are disgusting don't you think?

Posted by: max We are counting on WV to change this around, you must vote for hillary, get the vote out, neighbors, those without transportation. DO IT.

Posted by: Sue I am not voting for McCain because I don't agree with him on healthcare among other issues including defense. I am liberal in that I believe in universal health care. I am not voting for Obama because he wants to sit down with our enemies and have a sing song session and from what I hear, he doesn't seem to have a grasp on what being president really is going to be like. I admire his idealism, though. Dennis Miller said the presidency ages you...in dog years! I agree with that! I am conservative in that I am very strong on national defense. Clinton would be stronger on national defense than McCain or Obama. I have read her stance and plans for health care, and while I do not agree with every minute detail, I agree with it overall. I am praying Clinton will get the nomination. For me, it has nothing to do with Republican or Democrat. I would have voted for John Edwards, Mitt Romney or Ron Paul. Of course, there are other issues but I don't have room.

Posted by: john Quit with the we are racists already, does that make blacks racists that they support obama 80 to 90 %.I agree that I hope somebody comes out of the blue to run,I would rather vote for ross pero than any we have now.

Posted by: Alissa It's interesting Stacy said that she does not want to hand over more money to the republicans since democrats are the ones who want to raise taxes and would then actually be getting more of your money.

Posted by: Elizabeth I cannot believe that some of you so-called Democrats are willing to vote for McCain if Obama gets the nomination. You all are obviously not voting based on the issues and have let your racist standings show. As an independent, I support the candidate who is gooing to end this war, improve our economy, reform healthcare, and reduce our dependency on foreign oil. After 8 yrs of Bush and a failed administration, I think it's sad that there are so many ignorant citizens in our country. It's no wonder Europeans call Americans "stupid".

Posted by: Carolyn Have you listened to the democrats??? All they are talking about is raising taxes to fund everything! I must vote republican....I can NOT afford any more tax hikes.

Posted by: Stacy I agree with Sue. I won't be voting republician. I don't make enough money as it is to hand over more money to the republicians to make them richer and I won't vote for Obama. Simply because of his ethics. And is he even American? Where is his American pride? And why does he sometimes wear the towel thing on his head? Doesn't sound like he's a proud American to me. I am praying (literally) for Clinton. It's not a racial issue, it's a matter of who will help dig this country out the situation that pres. bush has put us in. Clinton is the one for job!

Posted by: Sue I won't vote for Obama and I won't vote for McCain. I am praying a decent independent makes an appearance.
