I’ve read with interest some of the comments relating to this blog over the course of the football season. We appreciate all your input and those comments got me to thinking. Instead of a blog on the
East Carolina
game, I thought I’d weigh in and respond to some of the questions and comments.
Q “why didn’t you update the Josh Johnson situation?”
A: We did indeed update the Johnson situation on Thursday prior to the UCF game with a quote from Mark Snyder saying Johnson was suspended for the UCF contest and that they would review his status on a game by game basis. In fact, our news people did a completely separate story on the Johnson situation that day. The reader suggested we only do stories on successful
Marshall
athletes—that is laughable.
Several people have asked me if Conference is too difficult a league for
Marshall
. I would have to respectfully disagree. CUSA has no absolute, dominant team this year, no squad that you look at and say that’s a top 25 team. There is no reason
Marshall
can’t compete in this league. The Herd’s stadium compares favorably with the top 1/3rd in the conference.
Certainly there are several schools with bigger football budgets than
Marshall
and the school should address that. Bob Pruett’s constant attempts to try to get the administration to upgrade facilities without success..is part of the reason he retired. If you aren’t improving your product, everyone else who is is passing you by. I will say that
Marshall
needs to play a more realistic out of conference schedule. Playing Wisconsin in 2008 makes no real sense—it’s not an area
Marshall
recruits, there is no return game, and the payout isn’t a huge amount of money.
Marshall
should try to play a schedule more conducive to producing wins, which builds confidence. Setting the team up to start out 1-3 every season doesn’t do that.
Finally, no one can fault the Herd fans. They put 27-thousand plus in Edwards Stadium on a Sunday night. 31-thousand plus were there for Homecoming watching an 0-7 team play a 1-6 team. Name me another Conference USA school where fans would be that loyal.
