MLB Extra Innings: No Mas, Huntington!

"Do you live baseball? Then check out MLB EXTRA INNINGS on Comcast Digital Cable."

It's right there on Comcast's Web site.  You can watch every out-of-market baseball game each night in your living room.

Then comes the small print on the bottom of the page: "Offer only available in participating Comcast systems (and may not be transferred)."

Huntington, W.Va., is surely participating. A city of more than 50,000 people who love their sports in a college atmosphere would certainly eat that up.

Apparently not.  After exhausting personal calls to Comcast (on three occasions) and "iNDemand," Huntington does not have a contract with MLB Extra Innings.

I went to Comcast's local office in Huntington and received the number for their regional marketing director.  I called her and was told I'd be called back by the end of the week.  It's been 6 days: no call!

So I'm calling all those non-Pirates, non-Reds fans out there: does your cable provider offere MLB Extra Innings?

Share your sob story.  I'll be watching the 15 nationally-televised Mets games closely this season--they may be the only chance I have.

Posted by: Laura I too called Comcast last year about the MLB Extra Innings Package. They told me that in our area, the package wasn't offered but would be in 2008. I just called them on Saturday evening and was given the same old song and dance that you received. "Sorry, it isn't offered in your area, is there anything else we can help you with??" Well, sure if you would like to purchase us season tickets to our favorite team. We do love baseball. Our son plays Little League and our daughter plays softball. We enjoy watching our favorite team, however, we will only be able to see games on FOX and Sunday Night Baseball. Bummer!!!!!

Posted by: Jeff When I tried to get MLB last year I was told it was not available, but it would be available in '08. When I called in March to sign up I was told that they were a couple of weeks away from taking orders. So when I called in two weeks I was told it won't be shown here. It was controlled by the local outlet. I contacted them and I was told the decision was made at the home office in Nashville.?????????????? So.....Does anybody have an answer? I tried a dish but they get terrible reception in my area. So I guess I'm without MLB again.

Posted by: McFly I spent a couple years in Tegucigalpa, Honduras in their exchange program. Like Randolph, I too appreciate your use of the Spanish language in the title of your blog. Good work senior Gessler. Muy bueno muchacho.

Posted by: Todd Brother, I feel your pain. It's tough living your life waiting for the next score update to scroll across your TV or the AP wire. That said, I agree with Robby, go with the mlb.com route. You can either get the video or audio feeds from virtually every game (sans blackouts). While you'll have to deal with the lack of HD on your computer monitor if you choose the video version, you can at least get to enjoy your team's announcers. I decided to get the audio feeds from my Tigers radio broadcasts. Honestly, it's a great investment ($15) if you just want to listen to the game and not have to sit in front our your computer for 3 hours every night (we already do that at work)... On another topic, don't you love it when your cable company says the following during a phone call: "Thank you for choosing (enter cable company here)". Like we had a choice in the matter. Yeah, I guess I chose to have a television. Good times.

Posted by: Dianna Paul, I am a die hard Reds fan and am very happy to advise that I can watch the majority of the Reds games. We have Dish TV and channel 427 is the Fox Ohio sports channel that televises the games. We previously had Direc Tv and were not able to watch many games. Go DISH!!!

Posted by: Robby in response to paul, the whole fox deal is bunk! on mlbtv you cant even watch saturday games that are between the hours of 1pm and 7pm b/c of fox "rights" to games, they've blocked out games on saturdays regardless of team, location, etc..

Posted by: punkie Zach McGinnis: Everything about cable systems....except their fees! There is nothing funny about their bills, including "well-loved" Dish,Direct-TV, SuddenLink, etc. Now we HAVE to purchase new equipment for HDTV!! It stinks, doesn't it????

Posted by: Chad 1-800-DIRECTV :) Cable is for cavemen!

Posted by: jay buy a dish cable sucks

Posted by: Jessica Paul, looks like you will have to find a bar or head to hooters to see some more MLB. Comcast seems like a real joke! Good luck with that situation!

Posted by: steve I feel you pain, Paul. Although I am on the Suddenlink system, you previously had been able to get both MLB Extra Innings and NHL Center Ice sports packages, but not this year. Why? I don't know. I can only guess that Suddenlink needed more capacity to add more MTV/VH1 channels or more pay-per-view movie channels. It looks like the only option is to go to Direct TV.

Posted by: Randolph I spent four years in South America doing research. I appreciate you using the Spanish language in the title of your blog. Paul, you should consider writing more of your blogs in espanol. Gracias! p.s. Keith Morehouse would make an excellent villian in a Batman film.

Posted by: Robby as a lifelong braves fan i became saddened when i found out last year that tbs was pulling the plug on braves baseball and would just show random games. like we dont already see enough of the yankees/redsox/mets on espn, fox, etc we now have to watch them on tbs too.. in order to feed my braves baseball obsession ive purchased mlbtv premium package ($120) and watch the games online. yeah the quality isnt hd or anything but at least i can watch the games no matter where im located. the only thing i have to worry about w/ mlbtv is the national/regional blackouts but anyone with compute knowledge know theres ways of getting around that :)

Posted by: Zac McGinnis I have Suddenlink and they do not offer it as well. Only Direct TV offers it and I can not stand dish TV. I've also tried to get Comcast and was told the same thing. I personally think the cablr systems in this sate is about like everything else, a joke!!!

Posted by: Billy Keen Paul I am not a clevend Indians fan but, the good news is that the Indinans Telvison Station is now showing games out side of ohio now the bad news, thanks to fox you cant watch the game of your chioce on saturdays. Now that's a bummer
