Hump Day Weather Woes

Updated: Wed 9:43 AM, Aug 18, 2010

It's the middle of the week and Tony says some rain will affect your outdoor plans.

Southern Storm Brings Summer Showers

This Wednesday morning I am watching the progress of a southern storm and front with close scrutiny. You see some communities in the WSAZ viewing area are in for a rare rainy day while others stay under a grey overcast with barely a spit or 2 of rain.

The culprit for the showery weather is same front that broke the heat wave with storms this past Saturday evening.

That front has stalled across the Great Smokies of Tennessee and North Carolina. South of the front the air remains hot and tropical with a steam bath feel to the air. North of the front a breath of fresh air has filtered in.

Now the seam between the steam bath and the better feeling air is marked by showers and downpours this morning. Since that seam lays across the Coalfields, I would expect several hours of soaking showers to ride along the Hal Rogers and Mountain Parkways of Eastern Kentucky before entering southern WV roads like the Tolsia Highway and Corridor G.

While a few showers will likely make it as far north the Ohio River, most of the action today will be south of I-64.

Travelers to any Southern WV State Park should be prepared for a wet and gloomy day with 4 to 6 hours of daylight rain and a cloak of fog clinging to the hills. In Fairlea WV, the state fair is looking like a wet and wild wonderland today in the Greenbrier Valley.

Showers will not make it as far north as Pomeroy so kids in 4H and FFA’ers (future farmers of America) at the Meigs Fair will remain dry.

Hot and dry sunshine will return for Thursday and Friday.

By the way, that's a Jerry Simpson icicle formation shot from this past January. Just tilt your head 90 degrees to enjoy it. Here's to "thinking winter"!
