Weekend Weather Aims to Please

Festivals galore this weekend, so Tony is hawking a "festive forecast".

Weekend Events and Weather

The calendar says summer, but our friends in the Village of Barboursville, Craigsville and Dunbar know better. They have reserved this middle weekend of September for their Fall Festivals.

And who is to argue since cool evenings in 50s, crisp  mornings in the 40s and mild afternoons in the 70s are on tap!

In Clay West Virginia, it’s all about Apples as in the Golden Delicious Festival. This annual homecoming began in the 1970s and is the big event of the year in Clay County.

Turns out the  Golden Delicious Apple was designated as the official WV state fruit by Senate concurrent Resolution No. 7, adopted by the Legislature on February 20, 1955.  This apple variety was discovered by Anderson Mullins in Clay County, West Virginia in 1905.

The Grand Feature Parade steps off at 1 pm Saturday with a big crowd sure to enjoy the "Golden sunshine" that basks Main street in downtown Clay. Saturday's night time concert features the Dave McCormick Band followed by a rousing Fireworks display. The complete Apple schedlue can be found at this delectable web site. http://www.claygoldendeliciousfestival.com/

Down in Southern West Virginia, the King Coal Festival is underway and hits its climax on Saturday. Up and atom at 8AM for the 5K King Coal run which starts at Belfry High. That will be followed by an all day Car and Cycle Show. The King Coal parade is slated for 5 pm with an old fashioned Block Party all evening long.

Thanks to Chad Abshire of the Williamson Daily News for the above info and be sure to read Chad's complete coverage of the Festival below.

If you live in the Bluegrass, look no farther than Ashland for a unique fall festival. Poage Landing Days celebrates the history of Ashland through its patriarch, Colonel Robert Poage. A morning 5K run, Arts and Crafts Fair  and live entertainment highlight this special celebration Check out the fun on line at http://poagelandingdays.com/

The Dunbar Fall Fest is a 3 day outdoor street fair complete with music, food and fun for the kids. I will be there for the 11 AM parade on Saturday.

The Village of Barboursville is busy this weekend with a car show, art in the park and plenty of old fashioned country and oldies music. http://www.eventcrazy.com/Barboursville-WV/events/details/218951-Barboursville-Fall-Fest

The legend of the mothman will come to life this weekend in Point Pleasant as the annual Mothman Festival is up and running. Celebrating its 10th anniversary, there will be plenty of Appalachian delicacies, down home music and fun for the kids. Check it out!

Finally, downtown Huntington will look for like Mexico City as Chilifest 2011 kicks off at 9 AM on 3rd avenue centered around Pullman Square. This annual culinary firecracker spotlights the best chili cooks in the Tri-State. Proceeds go the the Ronald McDonald House. My forecast you ask?

Senors and Senoritas, hace mucho sol con temperaturas simpaticas! Espero a leer tu alli.
