A Friendly Hallows Eve Tale

Updated: Sat 11:43 AM, Nov 01, 2008

It's "All Hallows Eve" night and Tony is blogging about thousands of jack-o-lanters and his trip to the Pumpkin House.

The “Count” and Friends

It was indeed a “treat” to visit the Pumpkin House in Kenova for my 5 and 6 o’clock weather hits on Thursday. Our hosts the Griffiths, Ric and Sandy, rolled out the red carpet for Trick or Treaters of all ages.

The three thousand carved jack-o-lanterns that decorate 748 Beech Street in Kenova are truly a ghostly spectacle. There is a soda jerk pumping out hot apple cider and a clown on a unicycle peddling his way to Looneyville, Roane County WV.

This year’s “Pumpkin-Head” additions include 3 politicians on the stump as Hillary, Obama and McCain all have their own podiums from which to campaign on.

The Halloween theme includes a musical ensemble with the likes of the 1812 Overture and the theme from Star Wars. “We will have 10 to 20 thousand visitors pass thru this week.” Indeed, they come from far and wide to sip some hot chocolate, eat some pumpkin bread and take in the sights and sounds of the Pumpkin House.

For my part, when I found out I had the Pumpkin House assignment, I dashed to the Magic Makers store for a spiffy outfit. Ken Fox quickly cast me as a "thirsty Count Dracula" type. The cape I donned made me feel quite the blood-sucker!

The kids too played into the fun as we did 4 live shots from the Pumpkin House for our 5, 5:30 and 6 PM broadcasts.

I will be adding more including e-pixs from my trip to the Pumpkin House after dinner.
