A Winter Storm is due in town on Tuesday. TC says this one has the old glazed eyed look about it.

"From 60s to snow and ice" would be a nice title for the blog tonight, this after a breezy and mild Monday when highs made the springy 50s and 60s!
The setup is rather unusual as no low pressure is heading our way. That means no wind to speak as the winter onslaught unfolds. Rather, a healthy arctic cold front is passing the region this Monday evening with a 20-30 degree drop in temperature to follow.
So after a break in the precipitation mid evening, when moisture returns late tonight the air temperature will have dropped into the 20s and 30s and that will set the stage for a nasty accumulation of snow and ice.
In the coldest air, more than 4 inches of snow and sleet should accumulate heading north up Rt 23 and 52 into interior Southern Ohio. Plows will be out in Jackson (sorry Jerry Walters, a vet snow plowman), Vinton, Meigs, Gallia, Scioto and Athens Counties.
Closer to the Ohio River, sleet and ice may hold accumulations down, but still keep salt truck drivers and plowman busy. A general 1 to 3 inches looks good for the River Cities of Huntington-Ashland and Ironton unless the cold air comes in with more gusto in which case it's more snow than I am forecasting.
In the Kanawha Valley, my gut says less in Charleston than Winfield since the air will be slightly colder in Putnam than Kanawha. I rate the city as most likely to measure an inch of slop, while the Locks and Dam measure 1”-3”.
The Coalfields will mix the rain with sleet and some snow, but are less likely to make it above an inch accumulation. Might be a case where a drive on the Country Music Highway starts snowy and sleety in Flatwoods and Ashalnd with a few inches, then winds up wet and cold in Pikeville.
If you are counting, this will be the 7th time we have had snow/sleet fall this season, a sure sign that the winter of 08-09 has nasty intentions.
