Red Hot Forecast in Mid-Winter

Hard to imagine talking about a Red Hot forecast on these cold and snowy days, but that's the way TC sees it this week.

“Red Hot” a Can’t Miss Forecast

I admit it! My forecasts have not been up to snuff recently. The work ethic has been there, but a few times Mother Nature has managed to zig when I expected her to zag.

Looking ahead, this week’s weather forecast is certainly an eye opener; namely, the coldest and snowiest of the winter. But that’s a prediction only, and ground truth may be another story.

But here’s a forecast that has a sure fire 100% can’t miss outcome. The Hurricane High “Red Hot” Show Choir will wow audiences with their newest song and dance routine this season.

On Sunday, I had the privilege of hosting the “Red Hot” Dinner Theatre at the home of the Redskins. My annual trip to Big Red Country is quickly becoming one of my favorite trips of the year.

Think of the Red Hot dinner theatre as an “Off Broadway” sneak peak at this year’s song and dance extravaganza. Fifty-four talented artists performed the same routine they will take on the road during a grueling, travel-filled three month tour.

While on the road, these young men and women will take their studies so as to stay among the top in the Redskin classroom. But make no doubt about it, Saturday’s are show days when Red Hot lets it all hang out.

This past weekend, 1600 adoring Red Hot fans
packed the Hurricane High gymnasium for 4 command performances. Annually, Red Hot uses the friendly confines to thank their supporters with a special dinner-theatre performance. I think of this event as a forum to audition their musical razzmatazz before hitting the road.

Red Hot begins its competition in Portsmouth this weekend (uggg, weather permitting). An early February date at the Charleston Civic Center in the Poca Invitational is circled on Director Ilse-Renee Moss and Choreographer Mitchell A. Fink’s calendars. The WV State finals are in April!

Red Hot is a 5 time defending state champion and 6 times all around titlist. Like all dynasties, Red Hot has the infrastructure in place to win, year after year. Not only is the theatrical talent in place at this school of 1100 students, but the booster club boasts 100% parent participation and runs events like the dinner theatre to help raise money.

I was shocked to hear that Red Hot’s annual budget is 60,000 dollars, 98% of which must be generated in fund raisers like dinner theatre.

On the walls of the school cafeteria are draped portraits of famous sports teams that have won state titles. To complement this AAA school of both academic and sports excellence, the pictures of the school’s state title Show Choirs are hung for all to see.

John Rymer from Pro Action Digital ( offers a sampling of e-pics from Sunday’s performance.

My forecast for this week is Blue Cold outside, but Red Hot inside on the Portsmouth stage.
