Easter Weather Ups and Downs
Thursday eve Update
It looks like there will be some morning showers on Good Friday followed by midday sunshine. Then as a cold front approaches Friday late afternoon and evening, a round of gusty thunderstorms will cross the region armed with vivid lightning, sudden downpours and even hail. There is a good chance a late day storm watch will be issued especially for the Coalfields.

The long Easter celebration begins on Maundy Thursday with a host of evening church services and passion play re-enactments.
Right now the forecast calls for a bright and sunshiny Thursday. The day will dawn with some patchy frost in colder hollows and temperatures in the 30s. By afternoon westerly winds will be blowing warmer air our way as highs head into the 60s.
Watch as the sky goes from bright blue to dim yellow by late day as ice crystal clouds paint the afternoon sky a milky white. Those clouds spell a soaking rain for our region on Friday.
The weather will go downhill by Good Friday morning as a warm front sends a round of showers and thundershowers our way. Early call is for the rain to arrive overnight Thursday, with the light rains coming as the warm front passes (Friday morning) and the main event coming with a strong cold front (Friday evening).
The prospect for a round of soaking thunderstorms calls to mind the risk of local street flooding and perhaps some power hits. In gauging this next storm risk versus the one last Sunday evening, I sense more rain but less wind this go round. So Good Friday outdoor services/passion plays will need to be orchestrated around the weather.
Saturday is Easter egg hunt day across the region. I sense some leftover drizzle, dampness in the morning especially
Saturday evening sunset is near 8 pm if your church is holding a vigil. On recent Easters Saturday evenings I recall chilly winds blowing for church activities and that should be the story again. Temperatures in the 50s with a gusty wind will fall into the 40s after sunset.
By the way, two years ago the air was bitter cold with snow on the ground on Easter Saturday evening and Sunday morning.
