Goodbye Dogwood Winter

The damp and chilly weather is about to break. Big Time! Tony has the soothing story.

Hello Spring & Summer

It figures. No sooner do we ditch the damp and chilly weather of Dogwood Winter that we are about to skip over spring and go directly to summer!

On our way to passing spring, a mid 80s weekend (Herd, Buckeye and Wildcat fans, it will feel 90 inside the sun bathed stadium) with loads of sunshine is on tap.

Thursday will dawn chilly with frost in the colder hollows and temperatures in the 30s, then warm smartly to 70 by day’s end. Credit a milderbreeze shifting from the northwest to the southwest in time for doing the trick as the moist and chilly polar air of early this week is shoved bodily back into Canada from where it came.

From there the chant is Sunshine Ho thru early next week!

One look at the long range charts suggests it could be until mid May before our next and likely final risk of frost will ensue.

So my suggestion to gardeners, don’t hesitate to put tender plants like geraniums and tomatoes into your garden, but put out only the number of plants that you can cover one last time.

Now the price to be paid for the warm, sunny and breezy weather will be an explosion of tree pollen. The oak and maple trees are just now greening after having held in relative dormancy thru the frequent spells of damp, chilly weather this spring. Now the trees are set to call off their pollen making strike. Instead, the trees will make up for lost time and produce pollen in incredibly high quantities for a one week period.

If you suffer from tree pollen, take your medicine and avoid the great outdoors as suggested by your doctor.
