Fall in Summer Weather

It may be the heart of summer, but Tony says it will feel more like fall this weekend. His autumn-like blog includes a lineup for outdoor fun events.

Rare July Taste of Fall

The weekend is finally here and most folks have outdoor plans that demand a close inspection of the weather. Any sudden shower can send fair goers scurrying for cover (Ask anyone who was in Eleanor around 6 Friday evening). Likewise, a July heat wave could make it too hot to play golf, run thru the park or do some lawn work.

But in this “summer without heat”, the weather will be more typical of September or even October this weekend.

First things first, a brief tornado warning was issued for Scioto and Lewis Counties around 4:30. Gusty thunderstorms did pass thru these Ohio River counties but unlike last Saturday’s ferocious activity, these cells did not muster the violent punch of their predecessors.

The action will be gone by sunset as county fair goers walk the midday at Eleanor and Proctorville. Sunset temperatures near 75 with a gusty 20 mile per hour will feel nice for All Shook Up at H.O.T.

As for the weekend, cool Canadian air will be oozing in from the northlands. Any daytime sunshine will self destruct into a field of strato-cumulus clouds which could shower at any time. Still, most of the time this weekend will be rain free.

Under a cloud cover, afternoon highs will reach the low and mid 70s and with the advent of darkness readings will fall into the low 60s for the Big Bros-Sis Myrtle Beach dance and outdoor beach party at Little Creek in South Charleston and for the tribute to Elvis at Ritter Park (aka All Shook Up).

Same goes for the last night of the fairs on Saturday where in Proctorville the demons of demolition are slated to go (crack up time begins at 8) and Ronnie McDowell is in concert at the Putnam Fair.

For Coalfield play fans, “Broadway Kids” is on the Jenny Wiley Theatre marquee on Saturday night.

Finally, the Cabell County fair begins Saturday night with a horse show in Milton, always a fun start to the fair. The fair parade is Sunday thru downtown Milton.

To sum up then, bring a jacket for night time activities this weekend and best to put off any swim plans for awhile.

Hope you enjoyed the stories I did from the Putnam and Lawrence Fairs this week.
