Severe Storms Before Opening Kickoff

Thunderstorms with gusty winds, a sudden downpour and pockets of hail will cross the region before 7 PM. The risk of tornadoes has shifted south into the Coalfields.

Wind and Rain Set Up for High School Tailgaters

As of 6:10 heavy thunderstorms are crossing Lincoln, Putnam, Boone and Kanawha Counties WV. Watch for a rush of wind and a cannon shot of thunder to annouce the sudden cloudburst!

A second band of storms is growing in intensity as it races thru Johnson, Floyd, Martin and Pike Counties KY. Strong winds and torrential rains will accompany these cells as they race eastward along the Levisa Fork and approach the Tug Fork of Mingo WV by 6:30. These cells have the best chnace to spawn an isolated funnel cloud or brief tornado.

As kids get set to head off to high school football games tonight, leftover showers will remain possible BUT THE RISK OF SEVERE STORMS WILL HAVE ENDED.

So Black Walnut Festival goers, showers will inger for evening activities.
