Friends of "Cold" Bowl

With our local teams both playing well, it appears we may be in for an exciting Friends of Coal Bowl this weekend. Early call is for a cold shot in Morgantown. Tony has a preview.

Friends of Coal Weather

Looks like a true taste of late autumn-early winter weather this weekend up in Morgantown for the big game.

Cold air has nestled into the Cheat mountains this Friday evening around Milan Puskar stadium. Morning tailgaters will brave a sleety mist with the temperature around 35 and a damp chill factor of 32. Game time temperature of 39 will be joined by a stiff north breeze and mixed rain and snow showers!

My suggestion, put some chicken corn soup or chili on the tailgate menu! and pack the snuggies and thermals for your comfort.

Herd and ‘Eers fans will be treated to near peak color on our native hardwood trees from Fairmont north to Morgantown. The color show actually begins around Sutton and gets progressively better as you drive north to Morgantown as of Sunday afternoon. Howver the grey overcast and wisps of hilltop fog will dull what will be the best color of the season.

Same forecast holds for the Bridge Day Festival in Fayette County where wet snow will mix with rain at times and fog will cap the ridgetops. Fall colors are at their peak this weekend for train goers of the Collis P. Huntington Society.

One final note, I am expected a slushy accumulation of snow in the mountains especially Saturday night. So towns like Morgantown, Buckhannon, Elkins, Richwood, Webster Srpings, Beckley and Lewisburg will have the ground coated for morning church services on Sunday.
