Sloppy Wet Snow

Sloppy Wet Snow

This Saturday morning has dawned like a Postcard out of a Currier and Ives album. The trees are glistening with a thick coat of wet snow making for a picture postcard setting. Sidewalks are covered with a mush of snow. Glad I had my totes on to protect my shoes and keep my tootsies warm!

Earlier this morning I trudged my way into the Kanawha Valley to do live shots on Virginia Street outside our Charleston studio. Goeff Mountain looked to have more snow than Institute, a sure sign that this was an elevation snow. I-64 is still slushy and wet from Charleston into Barboursville.

So far accumulations are manageable in the 1"-4" range north of I-64. If the snow winds down this afternoon as expected, major power outs will have been avoided. Snow has been slow to come to the Coalfields. Sorry guys! These totals are roughly half what I expected, though we should still get another inch or 2 before the storm ends.

My suggestion is to keep the kids inside this morning as the snow is so wet and sopping that they will get soaked in a matter of minutes. Naturally, you will have some hot chocolate ready for them when they come in from play!

One final word, get the slush off your sidewalk else you will have a thick crust of ice to walk upon come Sunday morning.

P.S. Skiers are stranded at Snowshoe where 23" of snow had fallen by 8 AM. Make that 24", i am now told!
