Thunderous Friday Evening

Thunderstorms are on the prowl this Friday evening. Tony has some common sense safety tips.

Hail Storms Crossing Region

This hazy, muggy TGIF is turning thundery across the WSAZ.COM area. Watches and Warnings are up area-wide.

In a nutshell, most areas will have a brief gusty thunderstorm of a half hour duration followed by an extra half hour of lighter rain.

The heaviest cells will produce pockets of hail and nuisance street flooding. The strongest winds will blow a few tree limbs down, but widespread wind damage in not expected.

Lightning strikes may cause some power flickers and outages.

Rules to protect yourself and family:

1. Keep kids playing close by so when a storm does move in they can be brought inside.

2. Stay away from TV and electrical appliances. You can watch TV just don’t sit next to it.

3. I like to unplug my Apple PC and the TV to protect them against power surges.

4. Stay off land-based telephones.

5. On ball fields and golf courses, don't wait for the storm to be on top of you. Take cover early and let the squall pass.
