Grass Pollen Season Arrives

Tony suffers, so he knows first hand. Grasses are pollinating up a storm.

Grass Pollen Alert

It has been a busy weekend. Productive too! I did my first ever 5K run on Saturday (Healthy Tri-State) on which I will write a blog on Tuesday. Watched my Philly Flyers get within one game of the Stanley Cup Final. Played a sometimes shoddy, other times tidy round of golf on Sunday at the Esquire. Through it all, there was one constant. My eyes watered and nose ran.

OK, it's grass pollen season and generally from around Memorial Day thru Father's Day those who have grass related hay fever will feel it.

My allergies are not too bad. In fact I do not need to take an antihistamine anymore. I do however take the following precautions.

1. I sleep with windows closed since pollens gather at night and will find their way thru screens, given how tiny they are in size (a fraction of a grain of sand).

2. When I come in from the outdoors, I damp mop my head since pollen will cling to hair and exacerbate my symptoms.

3. If my allergies get out of control, an over the counter medication called Chlortrimeton takes care of my symptoms. (Word of caution: speak with your physician before taking anything and since many over the counter medications cause drowsiness, take the pill right before you go to bed).

Grass season is all but over by July 4th, though the peak of the season runs for the next 4 weeks.
