More tropical downpours are likely this week. Tony says we may be in for more high water.
9 PM Update
Evening thundershowers have been scattered while avoiding the population rich I-64 corridor. In addition, the heavy afternoon rains in the Coalfields managed to simple "wash out" a few secluded hollows in Logan and Mingo Counties WV.
A new cluster of storms in Indiana will carve out a path of lightning bolts and thunder crashes into Southern Ohio and far Northern Kentucky overnight, arriving in our region in "weakened form" by dawn.
That will set us up for a showery start on Tuesday before we transition back to a tropical sky-steamy environment on Tuesday. Chances remain strong for an afternpoon and evening cloudburst with local flash flooding. When and where, you ask? Wish I knew for sure!

Monday afternoon’s rains are lighting up 3D Doppler radar. You can interactively track these cells as they move thru your neighborhood with our Interactive Radar Tracking system. It’s a neat tool that the weather buff is sure to enjoy. Guaranteed!

This soggy, saturated and soupy weather pattern is among the most familiar we see here in Appalachia. Basically, as we transition from spring warmth to summer stickiness, the air is so buoyant that thunderstorms can form with little notice and blossom into intense squalls with sudden ferocity.
Our main concern continues to focus on the Coalfield region where the ground is as sopping wet as a sponge. Any new rains will likely renew flash flooding. So if you live in Logan, Mingo, Wyoming and McDowell Counties WV, be prepared for more high water and rock/mudslides this afternoon.
In nearby Boone WV and Martin and Floyd WV, the risk of flash flooding is increasing as rains move up the Levisa and Tug Forks from north to south.
Since the vast majority of the Newschannel 3-Wsaz.com area is under a flash flood watch, I remind people who live in flood prone areas to monitor water levels frequently if rains pelt down for an hour or more. If flood waters approach, seek high ground immediately.
