Bowl Weather from Idaho to Tampa Bay

Herd Fans to Bask, Bobcats to Shiver
It’s the most wonderful time of the year in more ways than one. For the Christians and traditionalists, the Christmas season is the most joyous of all.
For our friends at ESPN, the play on words refers to the bowl season. Over the course of 3 weeks, 35 bowls will be contested among the top college football teams, most at rather therapeutic climates. You see from Hawaii to Southern Cal to Florida, most college football fans will bask in the glory of a sunny and warm trip.
Locally, 4 of our teams are bowl bound and already I have a solid forecast for two of those games.
For Ohio U fans heading to Boise for the Potato Bowl, the normal warm bowl clime won’t show up that far north. The weather in Boise will be cold and blue with clear skies and a winter chill. Days will warm into the 30s and nights will fall through the 20s into the teens.
Saturday will see a beautiful blue sky for afternoon tailgaters outside the blue turf at the home of the Boise State Broncos. Kickoff temperature will fall into the 20s as the sun sets behind the snowcapped Boise and Owyhill Mountains.
Idahoans are known for their warm reception of visiting teams so Cats fans will be right at home this weekend. Some dense fog make greet the dawns in the so-called Treasure Valley.
Meanwhile Thundering Herd fans have a much warmer clime to embrace as Marshall has a date with the Florida International Golden Panthers next Tuesday.
The weather in Tampa Bay this weekend thru early next week will be dominated by an unusually strong late season Bermuda high. That’s a fancy way of saying the sun and sub-tropical breezes will blow across the bay from the Gulf of Mexico.
Gulf temperatures are running in the tepid upper 60s so a dip in the ocean will be rather invigorating.
As for the game, I would expect a nice breeze and temperatures falling thru the 60s, so a light jacket is recommended.
Since rain showers are a good bet on Wednesday, check back with me to make sure those showers are not “early arrivals”.
